To fix the error, you can certainly call Canon… but I will tell you exactly what they tell you on the phone. First they will ask you to do a clean reboot, then try switching the lens, and then they will ask you to pay to ship the camera to them, wait four weeks without a camera and then cross your fingers that the repair isn't too expensive. Gepubliceerd op 27 mei 2013Description of an error with the Canon 30D. The camera displays the error message "err99" which as most know is a catch-all error code for "something is wrong"!The error message is displayed between every 5 & 20 shutter actuations. In burst mode it appears almost always after every 5 shutter clicks. The error requires the battery to be removed to clear it but DOES NOT prevent the last image being written to the media card! The particular error with this body therefore appears to be the error message itself as its been operating (annoyingly) like this for over a year now without any other symptoms. As I have already moved onto other camera bodies its time to let go and say g

I have taken just over 7,000 exposures with my camera in 10 months. Last week was my http://www.advancecamera.com/2012/02/17/canon-eos-error-99/ long awaited photo expedition to the San Juan Islands of Washington State. Half way through the trip my Rebel refused to take any pictures.I tried the obvious things but the error 99 lens error message would not go away. It was consistantly making that partial , incomplete shutter trip noise. I was actually relieved that it finally broke in the last two months of my warranty so the repair would be covered. I salvaged the rest of the trip with my Minolta D7 and got some amazing IR shots that I probably wouldn'thave otherwise. When I got back I canon lens error called Canon and talked to Gary at 1-(800)828-4040. He asked me to try a few things before I sent the camera in. He said:1. Carefully clean the 8 gold color lens contact pins on the camera body lens mount with a pencil eraser. Do this while holding the camera so that any eraser dust will not fall into the camera.2. Take out both batteries. Yes, there are 2. I had forgotten about the smaller Date/Time battery. Also remove the CF memory card.3. With the batteries removed, turn the camera switch on for 3-5 minutes. He said that this clears the memory.4. Turn the camera off and put the batteries and CF card back in.5. Re-attach the lens and turn it back on.I did all of this and my camera works fine now. I had to re-enter the date and time and re-select parameter 2 but my Rebel is now working again and I'm much relieved that it was something that simple all along. Gary was very courteous and knowlegable and waited patiently on the phone while I went though his procedure. He said that I could send the camerain for service
2012 adcam Repair It is fairly common for Canon DSLR bodies to display the “error 99″ message. Some folks say that it’s a memory card error and others say it has to do with the cameras battery. The truth is it that it could be either one, or a number of other issues that could be both body or lens related. Here are some tips to help you diagnose error 99. These suggestions assume that you’ve already tried using a different lens (made by the camera manufacturer) and different CF memory card (freshly formatted). 1) Re-set the camera- Turn off the camera and take out the memory card and battery. Let the camera sit for 10 minutes and then reinstall your accessories. This will cause the camera’s “brain” to reset itself and will sometimes fix the error. If this doesn’t fix it then try the next option. 2) Remove the lens from the camera and use a BRAND NEW pencil eraser to gently rub the gold contacts on the back of the lens. It’s best to do this with the lens mount facing down (opposite of the lens picture below), which will prohibit debris entering through the rear mount. Clean contacts will insure proper communication between the camera and the lens. Dirty contacts can result in interference with the auto focus and or metering systems. Fingers crossed, this does the trick! Unfortunately, these procedures will not fix the error 99 in every case. It’s a good idea to give them a try before taking your camera or lens in for repair since its not a difficult or time consuming process. If these procedures dont fix your error 99, head over to our repair department and let one of our qualified technicians evaluate your camera.
