The problem is common for most cameras with telescopic lens barrel. Other manufacturers might have a different name for the same problem (lens error, access error, zoom error, lens obstructed, focus error...). Some cameras only display a numerical error, such as E18. Due to the common nature lens error canon s100 of this problem, it seems that Canon has dropped the numerical marking of this error in newer cameras, and is now using the term "lens error".
