this problem too Subscribed to new answers Is this a good question? Yes No Voted Undo Score 31 Cancel Comments: I stuck a card and tried to gently flick out anything that might've been in there like sand or dust but nothing came out. I was discouraged but I kept doing it and I actually tried to lighting bang the camera on he table while opening the camera and it worked! Moral of the story there is probably dust lens error canon s100 but it won't get out the first time. Try it a couple of times and bang it very gently on the table. Good luck! Place it on the back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the lens and the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens was extended. Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a “click” as it pops back into place. Try powering the camera back on. i've found it on the net, here is the original text -

Gepubliceerd op 22 apr. 2012After 3 months of owning this brand new camera that cost me $300 the lens decided it didn't like retracting. Just like that, in the middle of taking a picture. The Canon warranty is useless and they wanted to charge me $200 to fix it. No point in throwing good money after bad. Besides, it turns out I could fix it myself! Here is more information on this, in case you are interested. http://chanfles.com/blog/?p=2972 Categorie Onderwijs Licentie Standaard YouTube-licentie Meer weergeven Minder weergeven Laden... a Canon Camera Due to a Lens Error How to Reset a Canon Camera Due to a Lens Error By Brandon Getty eHow Contributor Brandon Getty Follow Pin Share Tweet Share Email Save Jupiterimages/Creatas/Getty Images After an accidental tumble down a flight of stairs or a day at the beach, your Canon compact digital camera may have trouble extending or retracting its zoom lens. This is referred to as the E18 error, and it is named for the white text which appears on the LCD display screen when it occurs. E18 error is common in many of Canon's point-and-shoot cameras, including the popular PowerShot line. No repair experience is required to reset your camera. Things You'll Need Air blower Small paintbrush Microfiber cloth Brush away dirt or sand particles which may be lodged in the seam between the lens and lens housing using a small paintbrush. Blow away any remaining particles with an air blower tool. Point the nozzle at the seam from about two inches away and move it around the circumference of the seam while blowing. Check that the seam is evenly spaced all the way around. If not, grip the lens and push it firmly toward the uneven section of the seam. When the lens is properly seated, you'll hear a slight clicking noise. Position your thumbs on either side of the lens if it will not retract back into the camera body. Press down firmly on the lens until you hear a slight clicking noise. Press the On/Off button until the lens retracts, and then power the camera back on. Clean away any fingerprints from the lens or camera body using a microfiber cloth. Tips & Warnings Refer to your camera's instruction manual for more troubleshooting information. Ensure that a fully charged battery is inside the camera before proceeding with the above steps. Bring the camera to your Canon dealer or a professional repair shop if the error is recurring. Do not attempt to disassemble your camera if you are inexperienced with repair procedures. References Canon E18 Error Repair Guide Canon E18 Er
