It turned itself off lens error restart camera canon powershot s3 is with the lens still extended. I have tried to restart several time and the error message just comes on and it turns itself back off again. I went to the Canon website and found absolutely no information about this error message or any help other than how to send it in for service. We are about to leave on a trip, which is why I bought this new camera in the first place, and do not want to wait 3 weeks for repair. Has anyone else had this problem and figured out how to fix it themself? Thanks. A big thank you to the folks that helped me fix it. Where I live there is no place that fixes these camera. I had a really great repair experience fixing it with this particular place, they just specialize in the Canon Powershot cameras only and they fixed the thing perfectly! If you don't have a card reader in your computer(s), they are available inexpensively, for example: amazon.com/Mini-Memory-Card-Reader-Writer/dp/B000FNDWLQ/… –coneslayer May 6 '11 at 13:54 2 I got this issue with my camera too, when my son dropped it in the sand. The lens mechanism retraction is very fragile. One grain of sand is enough to break the camera. In our case, we got the camera for less than a week, so we returned the camera for an exchange. –decasteljau May 6 '11 at 14:01 add a comment| 9 Answers 9 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted Lens errors are fairly common.
