If you don't have a card reader in your computer(s), they are available inexpensively, for example: amazon.com/Mini-Memory-Card-Reader-Writer/dp/B000FNDWLQ/… –coneslayer May 6 '11 at 13:54 2 I got this issue with my camera too, when my son dropped it in the sand. The lens mechanism retraction is very fragile. One grain of sand is enough to break the camera. In our case, we got the camera for less than a week, so we returned the camera for an exchange. –decasteljau May 6 '11 at 14:01 add a comment| 9 Answers 9 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vo

The camera should still be under warranty and you should return it because a lens error usually needs to be repaired. The most likely cause of your lens error is that you have restricted the lens from extending in some way. That's why it's always a good idea to make sure you turn the camera Off in review mode so the lens won't automatically extend when you turn it on. Anyway...plead the usual ignorance I suppose and see if the warranty will cover it.
