That would give you canon g10 lens error restart camera that error. Check on here for some generic instructions. It is also possible that the DC-DC converter board has failed. There is a fuse on the board that you can check to see if it has continuity. If you have a multimeter we can also check some of the other components. If you don't than the only fix for that is most likely a replacement of the board and/or a lens replacement depending on your findings. Was this answer helpful? Customer Discussions > Canon PowerShot G9 12.1MP Digital Camera with 6x Optical lens error Image Stabilized Zoom forum Beware the fatal "Lens Error" that renders this camera unusable if you are unlucky See latest post Sort: Oldest first | Newest first Showing 1-15 of 15 posts in this discussion Initial post: May 15, 2008 9:34:59 AM PDT sfchris says: This camera has a major design flaw with it's lens that causes the camera to totally stop working. The error message given is simply "Lens Error, Restart Camera" or "e18 lens error restart error".See this site for all the error reports:http://e18.bitnet.cx/comments.phpGoogle "canon" and "E18" for more information. Here's a PC World report on the problem:http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,124765-page,1/article.htmlClass action lawsuit:http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2005/canon_class.htmlThe point of my posting these links is that a certain percentage of people who buy this canon WILL end up getting the e18 and will lose all their investment. Ordinarily that would be acceptable, you would just send it back to Canon and get a new one. But because Canon refuses to admit this is a problem and Canon will not fix it for free, this problem becomes a fatal one. So when you buy one of these cameras I think you should be aware of the risks involved. That is why I posted all these links.I understand why Canon is not admitting this problem and will not fix it. It takes a technician a lot of work to completely disassemble the camera. Also probably the percentage of cases is high enough that it would cost them a lot of money to send out a free camera for all the e18 errors. Finally it costs Canon a lot of money to reengineer the lens drive mechanism to fix the flaw. It is easier and cheaper for them to alienate a certain percentage of customers who have no recourse but to complain about their tactics on a message board. Reply to this post

I opened the box. I put the battery in it. I was standing next to the counter. I turned it on. The lens extended way faster than I expected and touched the counter. Now I get a "lens error restart camera" message. I've turned it on and off several times and briefly removed the battery. Same message. I never took a single picture with it.At least I have my new 40D !Is there any way to reset the camera or reset the lens to make it work ?40D, 28-135, 50 f/1.8, 85 f/1.8, 430EXBroken G9, unfixable.LOG IN TO REPLY sponsored links (this ad will go away when you log in as registered member) miguelmarcosmiguelmarcosMostly Lurking19 postsJoined Oct 2007More infoDec 20, 2007 17:24|#2You should'a got a Leica!More seriously, that sounds sufficiently weird enough that I would consider having it replaced. I just got a new G9, well I have a manual, the wife won't let me play with it till Christmas. Anyway, I have been reading the manual and the first thing it says is to charge battery. Is the battery already charged? She hid the camera, I have been telling her to please take out the battery and charge it so when I open it on Christmas Eve. I can play.
