Cancel Camera Repair Rep: 349 4 1 Posted: 09/19/2010 Options Permalink History Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to this can only be corrected by professional repair. But, Here are some things that you can do that may correct it, without even opening the camera. Answer this question I have this problem too Subscribed to new answers Is this a good question? Yes No Voted Undo Score 9 Cancel Comments: I'm also experiencing this error message, however... • the camera turns on, • https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/170418/My+camera+is+showing+%22lens+error-restart+camera%22,+how+do+I+fix+it the lens extends outwards, • the lens contracts inwards, • the camera turns off... I did notice the superficial disfigurement that is on the outer shell of the lens, but this shouldn't cause this error as on occasions, the camera turns on, the lens extends outwards, and I can snap a few pictures, unless I aim the camera in any direction other than straight ahead - if not straight ahead, the lens contracts inwards & camera turns off. 12/10/2015 by Frae Guile Add a comment 0/1024 Cancel Post comment Are you sure you want to delete this zzzzzz? Normally this is a problem with the lens extension mechanism that is activated when the camera starts. This can normally be attributed to a dirty camera case or other grit getting into the camera mechanism. Other possible sources are physical jarring during operation or low battery during operation. The fist thing you should do is remove the existing batteries and the memory card from the camera, wait one minute

Anyone know what this indicates?I seem to be able to clear the fault by detaching and reattaching the lens and/or detaching and reattaching the battery, but the fault seems to return again intermittently. Many thanks in advanceKeith Logged Website NickT Administrator Senior Member Posts: 1482 Re: Lens error 27:1 « Reply #1 on: September 11, 2013, 09:48:53 AM » Hello KeithMost likely a contact issue, try cleaning lens and body contacts. Error code reports symptoms and not diagnosis so 27 could be contact fault or shutter fault, contact fault is most likely. Do you have up to date firmware? Originally, it did not allow me to remove, reset, and reattach, but I sent it off to NJ and they supposedly fixed the problem. However, the problem still exists, but now I can remove, reset, reattach, and it will work for another couple of exposures. Very annoying. If I thought they could fix it for good, I would send it off again. Sadly, I do not have the confidence that that they can completely solve the problem. Greg Logged K
