Place it on the back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the lens and the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens was extended. Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a “click” as it pops back into place. Try powering the camera back on. i've found it on the net, here is the original text - if that won't help - go to the source page and read about the other options -----------------------------------------------

If you don't have a card reader in your computer(s), they are available inexpensively, for example: amazon.com/Mini-Memory-Card-Reader-Writer/dp/B000FNDWLQ/… –coneslayer May 6 '11 at 13:54 2 I got this issue with my camera too, when my son dropped it in the sand. The lens mechanism retraction is very fragile. One grain of sand is enough to break the camera. In our case, we got the camera for less than a week, so we returned the camera for an exchange. –decasteljau May 6 '11 at 14:01 add a comment| 9 Answers 9 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. I have written a blog post about some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only se

Trying to Reset the Camera won't Solve the Problem after It's been Dropped. So You have only two Options. Option A: Send the Camera in for Repairs, but in so many cases including yours is that the Cost for the Repairs would actually be Greater than what the Camera is really worth. Option B: Just go out and get a Brand New Camera due to the Cost of the Repairs. By The Way: Where was the Supplied Camera Strap? Using the Supplied Camera Strap would had Greatly Reduced or even Eliminated the Camera from being Dropped from the very start.
