Caguth Jan 11, 2008 We have the same problem with our Coolpix L11...Went to change battery when battery was low and lens would not go in, replaced batter and lens appeared stuck, this also happen several days after buying it, I gently pushed lens in and it was fine up until now...I have tried to push lens in and now lens cover came off...I actually shipped camera to NIKON for repairs however, they want $96.00 to repair a $149.00 4 month old camera...Doesn't make sense...However, I will try and get it unstuck myself, any suggestions...Nikon claims it's damage, but the camera was not dropped so they won't repair under warranty.. This has to be THE most common failure mode for a digital camera, a stuck lens, jammed lens, or a malfunctioning lens. Some common error messages that might show up on the LCD's of cameras with this problem include "E18 lens error" (older Canon Powershot), "ACCESS" error (Sony http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html Cybershot), "Zoom Error" (Fuji Finepix), "Lens Obstructed" (Kodak Easyshare), "lens error, restart camera" or just "lens error" (Nikon Coolpix and some other camera makers lately are using this variation). Some cameras might show nothing at all, but merely make a beeping noise as the lens goes out, then in, then the camera shuts off. Sometimes the lens won't even move. The problem is actually quite common throughout all camera brands. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended. Need fix without spending \015 I bought my Nikon just about a year ago and I've had Lens Error problems with it before, but http://www.lionebra.com/nikon_coolpix_p1_digital_camera/q1565578-nikon_coolpix_s550_lens_error_need_fix I had been able to fix them by turning my camera on and off for a while. This time, though, the lens isn't even opening, it's just making noises for a little bit, then it says Lens Error. I brought it to the beach the day before and it was working fine. I get that there is probably sand in it or I accidentally bumped lens error it, but I can't afford to get it fixed because it will cost $130, and the camera was only $200. I was wondering if anyone knew how I could possibly fix this problem myself, or without using a ton of money.\015 Answers : No, even if you could find a lens for free this is not an easy camera to replace the lens on.
