Customer Question nikon coolpix s9700 lens error My daugheters camera nikon coolpix s230 keeps saying lens error. just stopped working. only a couple months old. Before it started to do thatm, it was just snapping photos on its own and did not wait for us to hit the http://www.nikonusa.com/en/nikon-products/product-archive/compact-digital-cameras/coolpix-s230.html button to take a picture. Submitted: 6 years ago. Category:Camera and Video Share this conversation Expert: Neil replied6 years ago. There are a number of things you can try:1. Ensure batteries are fully charged2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand or other dirt etc3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 2 minutes and refitIf no luck then we have to try http://www.justanswer.com/video-camera-repair/3amkr-daugheters-camera-nikon-coolpix-s230-keeps-saying-lens-error.html some things that could possibly result in damaging your camera so should only be tried if happy to take that risk...5. Try thumping the camera into your other hand, by thumping into your hand you are trying to jar the mechanism loose, by using your hand you will hopefully not do it too hard or it will hurt. You may need to do this a dozen or so times in different places to work. I have found the flat of the camera bottom into the flat of your hand best..6. If the lens is stuck in the out position then remove the batteries and try twisting the lens first one way then the other, do not apply excessive force when doing this or you can break gears, you are trying to reposition not force... Likewise if the lens looks like it is crooked you can try pushing it back into position. This has a higher chance of doing more harm than the thump so please be careful...7. Dismantle the camera, not for the faint hearted, you need to dismantle the lens assembly into the main body of the cameraIf no luck then only other option is a serviceman I'm afraid, be sure to get a quotes as camera repairs can be uneconomical Neil and 4 other Camera and Video Specialists are ready to help you Ask your own question now Customer: replied6 years ago. Trending Now Michael Kors Chicago Cubs Harley Quinn Khloe Kardashian Bill Gates Online MBA Gretchen Mol Bill Clinton Credit Cards Cable TV Answers Best Answer: Does the lens error nikon lens come out all the way as normal when you turn it on or does it stay in, attempt to come out, make funny noises or come out at a strange angle? If it does any of the latter suggestions then the lens has probably broken either through being dropped or by opening by being powered on whilst in a bag or confined space. Unfortunately it is very unlikely that it would be fixed by your manufacturer under the warranty but I would take it along to a camera shop and ask someone to take a look at it for you. Sometimes it's a quick fix and other times it may not be repairable. Unfortunately this is the problem with lens errors. If it cannot be easily fixed, some camera shops can give you a free estimate for repair costs. I recommend getting one of these before contacting your manufacturer as their costs will undoubtedly be higher if they refuse to repair it under your warranty. Share March 13, 2016 A lens error message on a Nikon Coolpix S220 can unfortunately be fairly common. This kind of error message is sometimes accompanied by a beeping sound as the lens attempts to come out or retract, or in some cases the lens might fail to move or the camera shuts down completely. This problem, however, is not unique to Nikon Coolpix S220 cameras only, but rather is a pretty common problem in other digital cameras as well. Causes of Lens Error Messages There are several problems that can trigger an error lens message in a Nikon Coolpix S220. These include: The camera is dropped with its lens extended The camera's battery gets drained with the lens extended Presence of dirt particles such as sand or grit somewhere along the lens' extension mechanism Dirt accumulation at the bottom of the camera case Luckily for Nikon Coolpix owners, it not hard to rectify a lens error message. Most of the fixes are quite easy, though others are a little bit more extensive and can void the warranty on the Coolpix. In such cases, it's better to perform the more extensive procedures on cameras whose warranty period has expired, while bearing in mind that this warranty does not extend to problems caused by dirt or damage from impact. How to Fix the Error Message the Easy Way The following methods are good places to begin when fixing the camera. If the problem has been caused by flat batteries, remove the batteries then wait for a few minutes. Now put a fresh set of NiMH 2500mah batteries then turn the camera on. If this fails to work, press and hold the ''OK'' or ''Function'' buttons while powering the camera on. Alternatively, remove the batteries and the memory card together. Wait for a few minutes then put in a fresh set of batteries and replace the memory card, then power on the device. If the problem is being caused by dirt particles lodged around the lens mechanism, blow compressed air around the gaps in the lens barrel. Use a hair drier for this purpose, but take care to use the ''No Heat'' setting. Another alternative to this is to try to suck the dirt out using a vacuum cleaner, though blowing is often more effective than sucking. If the a
