It would be my pleasure to help with your issue. If your camera is still under warranty, the best thing you can do is to take it to the nearest official Nikon repair shop and Nikon should fix it for free. If you don't have one near your area, nikon coolpix l830 lens error then you can contact Nikon support at the link provided below. Nikon Support If you camera isn't still under warranty, then there's still a few things you can try before taking it to a repair shop or just buying a new one.1. I'm sure you've probably already tried this, but remove the batteries and wait about 10 seconds, then re-install them and try to turn it on.2. Try blowing out the area between the lens and the body with compressed air. Dirt and dust get caught in here sometimes and cause the lens to get stuck.3. Look down the lens at the spot where the lens and the camera body meet. Look for a difference in the gap between these two. If the gap is larger in one spot than another, gently press on the spot where the gap is the greatest and listen for a click.4. Try tapping the bottom of the camera on a hard surface(desk/palm of your hand) as you power up the camera The Lens may just be stuck and needs a little help. Sounds kind of Low tech I know, but it works sometimes.5. As a last resort you can try forcing the camera lens. Gently pull out or push in on it as you power up the camera. Let me know if I can be of further service, and let me know how it turns out. Please remember to accept and leave positive feedback if I'v

I haven't used it very much yet. It has stopped working - I think. It is giving me an error message about the lens cap, even when http://www.justanswer.com/video-camera-repair/5bzlm-nikon-coolpix-p80-screen-msg-lens-error-lens-cap-on.html the lens cap is not on, and the lens is extended. The other symptom is that there are no other symptoms, except for a motor type sound, similar to the sound it makes when the lens is being extended or retracted - except that the lens stays extended. It won't go back in. Just for the heck of it, I am re-charging the battery, in case this error message is a https://forums.anandtech.com/threads/nikon-p80-troubleshooting.2021565/ sign of a low battery. Does anybody know what the lens cap error message means - if it shows up when the lens is extended and the lens is off ? The actual error message - "Lens error. If the lens cap is attached, turn the camera off, remove the lens cap, and turn the camera on." #1 wwswimming, Nov 7, 2009 Fardringle Diamond Member Joined: Oct 23, 2000 Messages: 8,007 Likes Received: 6 If the lens actually stays extended and won't retract, it sounds like you have a problem with the motor and/or gears that move the lens in and out. Since it is a new camera, I would definitely take it back and have it replaced with a camera that works properly. #2 Fardringle, Nov 8, 2009 corkyg Elite Member

This thread may have some clues. http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html If the camera is under warranty, exercise the warranty. I had a Nikon P80 a couple of years ago - gave it to my son. Never had that problem, but I did not like the occaskional long delay when snapping a picture.

Some common error messages that might show up on the LCD's of cameras with this problem include “E18 lens error”, or “lens error, restart camera”. Some cameras might show nothing at all, but merely make a beeping noise as the lens goes out, then in, then the camera shuts off. Sometimes the lens won't even move. The problem is actually quite common throughout all camera brands. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended. Believe it or not, one BIG contributor to lens errors is using a camera case. Sand, gunk, case fibers, etc... accumulate at the bottom of the case. These materials love to cling to the camera by electrostatic build-up from the camera rubbing against the side of the case (especially those cases with soft fibrous intreriors). Once these materials work their way into the lens mechanism, that's all she wr
