If you don't have a card reader in your computer(s), they are available inexpensively, for example: amazon.com/Mini-Memory-Card-Reader-Writer/dp/B000FNDWLQ/… –coneslayer May 6 '11 at 13:54 2 I got this issue with my camera too, when my son dropped it in the sand. The lens mechanism retraction is very fragile. One grain of sand is enough to break the camera. In our case, we got the camera for less than a week, so we returned the camera for an exchange. –decasteljau May 6 '11 at 14:01 add a comment| 9 Answers 9 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote accepted Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. I have written a blog post about some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to wo

This problem goes by many names, depending on the camera manufacturer. Some other names for this problem include for Canon Powershot and Nikon Coolpix "lens error", Sony Cybershot "access error", Kodak Easyshare "lens obstructed",and Fuji Finepix "zoom error" and "focus error". Some error messages may just show a number (e18 error). But no matter its name, the issue involves a problem with the extension of the camera's lens mechanism (or lens barrels). It would be my pleasure to help you resolve your issue today. The error your having with your camera "lens" error is one of the most common issues with powershot a495 lens these types of cameras. Something as simple as one grain of sand in the lens can cause this to happen. I'm going to post a few things for you to try to clear the error. I'm sure that you've already tried some of them but please bare with me and go through these steps in order.1. Power down the camera, remove the memory card, and any other accessories that may be removable and let it sit for a few minutes.2. While the camera is powered down inspect the tiny gap where the barrel of the lens and the camera body meet check this gap for any irregularities and if you notice that any one barrel is out of alignment then gently press on the area where the gap is the largest and listen for a click.
