Check the space around the lens and see if the spacing is equal distance all the way around. Sometimes you can use a vacuum cleaner and apply vacuum suction on the lens while powering it on. this may remove some of the dirt/debris and free the mechanism. If none of that works, you may have to replace the lens. The guide for that is here. Hope this helps, good luck. Guide Disassembling Canon PowerShot SD1100 IS Camera Lens Difficulty: Moderate — 25

Place it on the back with the lens facing up and take a look at the spacing between the lens and the lens housing. If you notice that the gap is not even all the way around the lens, the problem should be easy to fix. This type of a problem usually occurs if the camera was dropped while the lens was extended. Simply - VERY GENTLY - press down the lens on the side where the gap is the biggest. You should hear a “click” as it pops back into place. Try powering the camera back on. i've found it on the net, here is the original text - if that won't help - go

Any suggestions?Hi most brilliant community- Unfortunately, http://www.instructables.com/answers/Canon-Powershot-SD1100-The-lense-is-stuck-and-won/ I'm very accident prone and dropped my Canon Powershot SD1100. The lense will not retract. When I turn it on you can hear the motor whirring, but it's http://www.justanswer.com/video-camera-repair/3odfe-canon-sd1100-says-lens-error-restart-camera-when.html not taking the lens in. An error message pops up sayin "lense error, restart camera" which I've done. I have also googled this errorhave been to many sites lens error that tell you to hit it, or push this button while pushing that buttonbutI can't seem to get it to budge. I did open it up to take a look and the lense is, of course fully enclosed. Most replacement lenses are arount $80 w/o labor. I am convinced that this camera can be saved (without lens error restart mucho dollars) Has anyone ever taken one apart and more importantly, mended a camera such as this? Can a klutzy but resourceful girl (me) fix this on my own? I have a second camera (same type) that i spilled a melted frosty all over and now it wont turn on. I'll leave that situation for another time! Thank you to anyone and everyone who has any suggestions! Yes, I made it! frollard6 years agoReplyPoint and shoot cameras are a nightmare to disassemble and reassemble. They are well worth the labour to get them fixed. It's not impossible by any stretch, and you have nothing much to lose trying to fix a broken camera. I would personally pay to get it done based on my experience taking these damn things apart.daniel_reetz6 ye

Hi,Lens errors are a common problem. Dirt can get into the gears or the lens can become misaligned from being carried in pockets, purses or at the beach. With newer cameras I am usually hesitant to suggest these options since they include some more extreme procedures that may cause further damage if not done correctly, but they may save you an expensive repair bill. The three links below give step by step DIY instructions on troubleshooting and attempting to fix this problem. The lens structure of these compact cameras is the same so the examples do apply to this unit. These procedures are effective about 60% of the time. Click on or copy and paste the links into your browser. Pay special attention to the opening statement at the first link if there is any chance of warranty repair.http://www.e18error.com/repair.htmlhttp://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.htmlhttp://www.fixya.com/support/t102982-e_18_problemIf the "do it yourself" approach doesn't work out for you and you need conventional repair suggestions please let me know.Note: Considering the age and present value of this camera, paying the cost of having it repaired , approximately $120 - $150 (Canon's starting price) really depends on how attached to the camera you are. The standard "rule of thumb" is if the repair cost is greater than 50% of the value of the camera, it is not worth it. A used or refurbished Powershot SD1100is can be purchased for about $75-$125 and a new one (with a new warranty) for about $189.If, and only if my answer to your question is helpful, please click the green Accept bu
