Mac Os 9 Error Type 1
message is displayed: "Sorry, the application 'Application Name' unexpectedly quit because an error of type (1, 2, or 3) occurred." Products affected System software versions 7.0 through Mac OS 9 Solution Type 1, 2, and 3 errors are Mac OS memory-addressing errors. These are usually caused by incompatible software or software conflicts. System software compatibility issues usually occur with older software. If your software falls into this category, contact the software vendor for an updated version of the software that works with your installed system software version. Software application memory allocation may need to be increased to resolve the issue. See document 56042: "Mac OS: Troubleshooting Out of Memory Errors". Software conflicts most often involve faults with extensions and control panels. Depending on which version of system software you have, you can troubleshoot these items in the following way: System 7.0 to System 7.1.2 1. Restart your Macintosh computer with the Shift key held down until you see the message "Welcome to Macintosh, Extensions off". This procedure temporarily turns off all non-essential extensions and control panels. 2. Try to recreate the failure. If the failure does not reappear, then you have an extension conflict. Go to Step 3. If the failure continues to occur it is probably not related to any third party extension or control panel. You may need to contact the software vendor to upgrade your application. 3. To determine which of your extensions or control panels is causing the failure, create a folder on your desktop and place all your non-Apple extensions and control panels in that folder and restart your computer. 4. One by one, place the items back into your System Folder, restarting and attempting to recreate the failure every time you add an item. When the failure reoccurs, then you know that either the last item you added, or a combination of the items you have added, is causing your conflict. Contact the vendor of the extension or control panel to see if there is an updated version available. System 7.5 through Mac OS 9 1. Restar

Clean Sanchez New Member Joined: Apr 15, 2004 Messages: 5 Location: Sydney, Australia Hi everyone, Thought I'd try my hand at GOTM, basically so I could get a feel for what I'm missing in PTW... So, to be sure I reinstalled Civ III, got 1.29b2 and installed that. Followed the instructions to download previous GOTM files and then jumped forward to a fairly recent GOTM. First time I started I got a crash to the Finder with a "type 1" error. Next attempt a type 2, many attempts later a type 3 mixed with type 2s. Restarts along the way. Finally got underway. Did a few saves along the way. About 100AD or there abouts a crash again. Mixture of type 1 and 2 errors on restart and reloading from my most recent save. This was a Conquests game. Gave up on that and downloaded the Open game. similar thing happened but still in BC. I run a very lean computer in terms of NO cracked/hacked software, and very little non Apple software. 300+MB memory. iMac 450MHz DV+. Civ III runs fast for me, 1
Error Codes Explained (Pre OS X) Article ID:Created:Modified: 17492/18/863/4/98 TOPIC This article explains what some Macintosh system errors actually mean. http://www.macwizard.com/errors.html You can use them to interpret what is happening when your Macintosh gives these errors. DISCUSSION Because the Mac OS is a sophisticated, complex operating system, the problems a http://forums.macrumors.com/threads/mac-help-can-anyone-out-there-tell-me-what-a-type-10-error-means.65153/ user encounters can be equally complex. These are examples of some problems that may occur: A handle can be de-referenced. A routine can get a NIL pointer. The stack mac os can dip into the heap for just a few cycles and not be caught by the stack sniffer. An application can forget to check an error code. A Macintosh usually crashes with a system error code while running under System 6.0.x. Starting with System 7, errors are displayed in a different fashion. Instead of displaying an error code, the mac os 9 system translates the code to the appropriate words, like "Address Error". Finding out what's wrong involves use of debugging tools, intricate knowledge of Macintosh memory structures, and familiarity with the application itself. Fixing it usually involves recompiling the source code. The table below explains some of the codes. ID=01 Bus Error This means the computer tried to access memory that doesn't exist. You can get this error on almost any Macintosh. If one of these computers tried to access one or more bytes beyond the total number of bytes in RAM, you see a bus error. You should never see this error on a Macintosh Plus or SE, because address references that are out of bounds "roll over". This means if one of these computers tries to access one byte beyond the total bytes in RAM, it actually accesses the first byte in memory. If you see this error on a Macintosh Plus or SE, it's reporting the wrong error or having hardware problems. ID=02 Address Error The Motorola 68000 microprocessor can acce
