Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) Processor: Intel Email Client: pop Just started getting this error message: Your Mac OS Network Preferences are not configured to allow automatic connections. You can manually dial up first, or you can change this setting: in your modem Preferences, click PPP Options, and then select the "Connect automatically" check box. What's going on? Everything was just fine yesterday - I am connected to the internet via airport / wireless router - not a modem in sight! Any advice greatly appreciated Thanks keithabennett, Apr 16, 2010 #1 Advertisements Diane Ross Guest On 4/16/10 1:16 PM, wrote: > Your Mac https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6078700?start=0&tstart=0 OS Network Preferences are not configured to allow automatic > connections. Sounds like a pref for network. Try running Repair Permissions but you might have delete a pref file in your User's Library/Preferences. Not sure which one to delete. Testing in a new User http://www.office-forums.com/threads/error-17896.2123931/ will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it’s your User’s folder that contains the problem. Go to System Preferences --> Create a New User in Accounts. Switch to the New User by logging out/in or use Fast User Switching. Test a connection in a new Entourage user. The most recent version of MS Outlook along with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are included in Office for Mac 2011. I use Leopard on my Mac and Entourage to get my e-mail. I set Entourage to check for new mail every 2 minutes. Well, it doesn't. I usually have to hit the send/receive tab to get my mail. But, sometimes my mail will show up automatically. I also got an error -17896 that says my OS network preferences are not configured to allow automatic connections. And then something about changing the PPP options to connect automatically. I'm not sure if that's the problem. I use Airport with cable modem, a Belkin router, not DSL. Is this a Hotmail/MSN issue? Belkin issue? Entourage issue? Any ideas? Thanks! #1 I_kern, Jul 14, 2008 MisterMe uix_expand uix_collapse Registered Joined: Jun 30, 2002 Messages: 4,050 Likes Received: 4 I_kern said: ↑ ...
