Mac Os Error Code 192
Solution for CD/DMG mounting problems! Jul 27, '01 04:58:52AM • Contributed by: skotmiller Eric Poelzl found the solution for those of us that can't mount CDs or DMG files. He has posted it in Apple Discussions. Open NetInfo Manager (in Applications/Utiltiies) and see if there is a Unknown User (click on 'Users' in the Directory Browser area). If not, you have to add it back in. Create a new entry with the following settings: realname: Unknown User expire: 0 name: unknown uid: 99 passwd: * home: /dev/null change: 0 shell: /dev/null gid: 99 Save your changes and you should be able to mount your CD's and DMG files again. [Editor's note: I have not tried this myself, and be careful working in NetInfo; if you mess something up, you could make your system unusable.] • Currently 4.00 / 5 You rated: 4 / 5 (2 votes cast) [12,328 views] Hint Options Printable Hint Format Subscribe to 'macosxhints.com System tips' Solution for CD/DMG mounting problems! | 7 comments | Create New Account Newest First Oldest First Flat Nested No Comments Threaded Click here to return to the 'Solution for CD/DMG mounting problems!' hint The following comments are owned by whoever posted them. OS 10.04-Disk Copy error 192 Authored by: wafa on Aug 01, '01 03:52:50AM Since I installed OS 10.04 and I am getting always an error message every time I attempt to open a disk image using Disk Copy. It always gives the message "Failed to mount due to error 192. Unknown error 192". Iam running OS 10.04 on PowerBook G3 Wall Street 466Powerlogix Blue Chip upgrade/Ram320/HD20 GB. I had no trouble before upgrading to 10.04. I tried your tip as described by Eric Poelzl but no success. Any other advises or tips are very welcome. I downloaded the new version of OmniWeb from their site, and it wouldn't mount. DiskCopy would launch, but do nothing, no errors,

It is a . toast file extracted from a .dmg file. Every time I go to mount the image in Toast, it says, "Couldn't complete the last command because of a Mac OS Error. Result Code = 192" I did some research and only found that this might somehow be related to permissions aka priviliges. I found a link to reset all priviliges to default but it's only compatible with 10.1.5. http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20010727045852728 Program: docs.info.apple.com/article.html Any ideas? posted by: Shannon California 58 friends join to post Advertisement mr.k... 25 Re: Can't mount image (error 192) 07/28 or the image file could be corrupt. ;D join to post Shannon 58 Re: Can't mount image (error 192) 07/29 That's what I thought initially, but after reading about others who had the same problem, it seems the problem persisted no matter which file they tried. I tried searching Apple support, but it only provides http://osx.tribe.net/thread/749d17f0-a18b-4c90-8dd7-4171b4379aeb information about an error opening a launcher: docs.info.apple.com/article.html I didn't find the other link I posted in the search results, so maybe there's something on the support site I'm missing. join to post Shannon 58 Re: Can't mount image (error 192) 07/29 Ok, I figured it out. I tried renaming the file as a .dmg. It worked. I didn't try it before because when I was reading about others with that same error, they said renaming didn't help, so I didn't think to try it myself. Big mistake, and lots of hours lost on this simply solved problem. Anyway, ran into another problem installing the file, and fixed that too. Now it works. :) join to post Recent topics in "Mac OS X" Topic Author Replies Last Post Need to replace my Mac book screen glass Rachel 0 June 7, 2016 Sad news about Jory Karen 2 May 24, 2016 What's the deal with Safari not functioning properly? Finally, I discovered that my hard disk included TWO copies (dunno why!) of Apple's Disk Copy, one in the Applications folder (the right place) and a second in my "user" directory. Deleting this second copy and ... grrr... reinstalling OSX and its recent update everithing worked fine. Good luck. #4 francofranchi, Apr 23, 2001 (You must log in or
