This discussion is locked Debra Russell Level 1 (0 points) Q: software update error (-1001) Everytime I try to update my software through "Software Update" I get an error code (-1001) saying thata a networking error has occured, timed out(-1001) Please make sure you can connect to the internet... I am connected to the internet so that is not the problem but I really don't know what to do and I'm not enough of a Mac expert to be able to find the answer myself. It seems I've seen other posts related to this issue but I can't seem to find them now. Can any one explain in simple terms, what the problem is? and how I fix it? iMac 24inch (early 2008), Mac OS X (10.5.8), previously owned, 2GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Posted on Jan 29, 2010 12:55 PM I have this question too Close Q: software update error (-1001) All replies Helpful answers by Hans Gilde, Hans Gilde Jan 29, 2010 1:11 PM in response to Debra Russell Level 1 (55 points) Jan 29, 2010 1:11 PM in response to Debra Russell Hi. I experienced the same problem some time ago. It happened to me when I tried to update several computers at the same time. It looked like the network I was on couldn't handle the traffic. Once a couple of the computers finished updating, the ones that errored out could then also be updated. I found the best time to do a software update is in the morning. Things always seem to be slower in the afternoon.Hans Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post by K Shaffer, K Shaffer Jan 29, 2010 1:42 PM in response to Debra Russell Level 6 (14,552 points) Desktops Jan 29, 2010 1:42 PM in response to Debra Russell Since it appears you've had this issue for awhile, and posted about it elsewhere. One of the possible answers was in a thread, ahead of your post there. 3 I don't knoiw what to do! ever sinse I did the update today, it's giving me "network error has occured: timed out (-1001)" . my internet connection is fine! nothing has changed... anyone else getting this? I've already restarted my computer. it was the latest security update, i've already tried disabling my firewall... I'm on the latest version of mac os X... i've tried other forums and can't find an answer anywhere.. and there is no way I'm paying money for an applecare account for just one question. p.s: (does anyone https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2317370?start=0&tstart=0 know of a way to contact apple support without having to pay for an account?) p.p.s: (if all else fails): i've read dozens of posts of people with this exact same problem on other forums and not one solution. maybe I'm a natural born pesimist but I'm doubtfull that my case will be any different... I've come up with 3 solutions: 1) is there a part of the mac http://www.mac-help.com/threads/software-update-error-1001-agh-driving-me-insane.2432/ website where i can download the updates directly? 2) if any of you have apple care or an apple account to post in their forum or email apple... 3) would it be safe to reboot my computer/re-install mac os x? would my programs/settings be deleted if i do so? (and how do i go about doing this) moe darklight, Jan 29, 2007 #1 Advertisements Ric New Member Joined: May 14, 2004 Messages: 4,260 Hi there and welcome, because this is a Software Update problem... First try and delete it's preference file. Trash the com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist file in your Home > Library > Preferences folder. Then empy the trash and restart... See if that is any better. regards Ric Ric, Jan 29, 2007 #2 Advertisements moe darklight New Member Joined: Jan 29, 2007 Messages: 3 thanks... but still no luck.. it's really weird... i have no clue where the problem is coming from.. is there any way to re-install software update or something? moe darklight, Jan 29, 2007 #3 Kyomii New Member Joined: Jan 16, 2006 Messages: 541 Location: Lancashire How are you connected to the net (via router or modem).
