Syntax IsError ( expression ) The required expressionargument can be any https://www.techonthenet.com/access/functions/ valid expression. Remarks Error values are created by converting real numbers to error values using the CVErr function. The IsError function is used to determine if a numeric expression represents an error. IsError returns True if the expression argument indicates an error; otherwise, it returns False. Example Note: Examples that follow demonstrate the https://support.office.com/en-us/article/IsError-Function-40a89200-138b-4e60-b254-34aea51b2e6b use of this function in a Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) module. For more information about working with VBA, select Developer Reference in the drop-down list next to Search and enter one or more terms in the search box. This example uses the IsError function to check if a numeric expression is an error value. The CVErr function is used to return an Error Variant from a user-defined function. Assume UserFunction is a user-defined function procedure that returns an error value; for example, a return value assigned with the statement UserFunction = CVErr(32767), where 32767 is a user-defined number.

a full version of Access, while a run-time version just crashes. For a more detailed approach to error handling, see FMS' article on Error Handling and Debugging. The simplest approach is to http://allenbrowne.com/ser-23a.html display the Access error message and quit the procedure. Each procedure, then, will have http://www.access-programmers.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=82612 this format (without the line numbers): 1 Sub|Function SomeName() 2 On Error GoTo Err_SomeName ' Initialize error handling. 3 ' Code to do something here. 4 Exit_SomeName: ' Label to resume after error. 5 Exit Sub|Function ' Exit before error handler. 6 Err_SomeName: ' Label to jump to on error. 7 MsgBox Err.Number & Err.Description ' Place ms access error handling here. 8 Resume Exit_SomeName ' Pick up again and quit. 9 End Sub|Function For a task where several things could go wrong, lines 7~8 will be replaced with more detail: Select Case Err.Number Case 9999 ' Whatever number you anticipate. Resume Next ' Use this to just ignore the line. Case 999 Resume Exit_SomeName ' Use this to give up on the proc. Case Else ' Any unexpected access date function error. Call LogError(Err.Number, Err.Description, "SomeName()") Resume Exit_SomeName End Select The Case Else in this example calls a custom function to write the error details to a table. This allows you to review the details after the error has been cleared. The table might be named "tLogError" and consist of: Field Name Data Type Description ErrorLogID AutoNumber Primary Key. ErrNumber Number Long Integer. The Access-generated error number. ErrDescription Text Size=255. The Access-generated error message. ErrDate Date/Time System Date and Time of error. Default: =Now() CallingProc Text Name of procedure that called LogError() UserName Text Name of User. ShowUser Yes/No Whether error data was displayed in MsgBox Parameters Text 255. Optional. Any parameters you wish to record. Below is a procedure for writing to this table. It optionally allows recording the value of any variables/parameters at the time the error occurred. You can also opt to suppress the display of information about the error. Function LogError(ByVal lngErrNumber As Long, ByVal strErrDescription As String, _ strCallingProc As String, Optional vParameters, Optional bShowUser As Boolean = True) As Boolean On Error GoTo Err_LogError ' Purpose: Generic error handler. ' Logs errors to table "tLogError". ' Arguments: lngErrNumber - value of Err.Number ' strErrDescription - value of Err.Description ' strCallingProc - name of sub|function

"Function is not avaiable in expressions in query expressions". The VBA functions this error refers to are "InStr" and "Format" which have been used within 2 queries. The application works fine on the developement PC which has a full version of Access 2003 installed. The PC in question runs Windows XP, Office 2003 Standard and Access 2003 runtime. I've also installed MDAC 2.8 which is the version the original MDB uses. Seeing that the PC has only the runtime Access installed, I'm unable to check if there are any references missing. Even running the following code from within a command button to see which references are missing produces an error. Dim ref As Reference Dim strOut As String For Each ref In Access.References strOut = strOut & vbCrLf & ref.Name & IIf (ref.IsBroken, " Missing", "OK ") & vbCrLf & ref.FullPath & vbCrLf Next ref MsgBox strOut I get the following error when trying to run this: "The expression On Click you entered as the event property setting produced the following error: There was a problem referencing a property or method of the object." Has anyone encountered a similar problem or have any ideas? Thanks in advance for your assistance.
