I am working on a project using MS Access. As the topic says - I am having problems with retrieving data from a table and displaying. The one table has the component information like manufacture name, size and other things. The other table #error access has some information pertaining to Temperature (mostly numbers here). On this 2nd table there are some fields that have no value and have been set to "---" by the previous db guy. All the fields are set to TEXT value. Now on the final front end - which displays information, the information from the first table shows up just fine. All the temperatures and info from the 2nd table show up as #NAME? Error. Any ideas as to what might be wrong? I have the table sources set to the right values (like =[temp rear]). I also tried changing the field from TEXT to NUmber. But that did not help. The relationship is correct and the keys are correct. I am at my wits end! Please help!! If so, did the data display correctly until now or did something change that caused these issues? The #NAME error is letting us know (not always clearly), that something is either misspelled, has incorrect syntax or the reference is missing. I imagine you have already checked all the control sources, names, etc

Advertisement keithchiv Thread Starter Joined: Aug 26, 2010 Messages: 2 I have used a long and #type access complex calculation in a form involving a number of fields to calculate the value of another field. The exact same calculation and field names works perfectly on another form, but not http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/topic/280451-name-error-in-ms-access/ on this one. (Similar, even greater, length calculations with different fields work perfectly on this form). It returns #Name error unless I give the field a fixed value. i.e. as soon as I start using one of the field names in the form, it gives the #Name error. Please help, .....going bald!! keithchiv, Aug 26, 2010 #1 OBP Trusted Advisor Joined: Mar https://forums.techguy.org/threads/ms-access-form-name-error.945976/ 8, 2005 Messages: 19,078 keithchiv, welcome to the Forum. The #Name error usually occurs because you have used a name for a field that is not in the Form's Record Source & Field List or is not one of the unbound text fields added later. So you need to carefully check the spellings of the field names and also check that they match those in the Field List. OBP, Aug 27, 2010 #2 keithchiv Thread Starter Joined: Aug 26, 2010 Messages: 2 Yes. Thanks for that which I knew and had already done. I think perhaps Access didn't identify the fields I used. I had used "cut and paste" in this calculation which had worked perfectly elsewhere in this and other forms. But for some reason, it did not on this calculated field. When I typed in the exact same formula using the "Expression builder" it worked fine. Only 2 weeks of intermittent trying to get that result!! Problem now solved. keithchiv, Aug 29, 2010 #3 This thread has been Locked and is not open to further replies. Please start a New Threa

I basically just create a text field in a report, use the build tool to find the relevant field from ms access a subreport/query, and then set it. I know the path is right for the control source because I am not typing it myself, I am selecting it. The field I am referencing still exists and is actually located where the controlsource is pointing. But for some reason, I get this error. It doesn't make sense. Can anyone please help? ms-access ms-access-2007 share|improve this question asked Jul 5 '11 at 19:24 jerry 89022251 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up #name error in vote 0 down vote accepted Try naming the control differently from source name. For example, if you have field in the source called "Name", give the control name "Name_Textbox". Just to make sure you have two different names (source vs. control). I think I had these problems in previous versions of MS Access (e.g. 2003). share|improve this answer answered Jul 10 '11 at 6:34 Igor Turman 1,85511322 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote I've seen that error (long time ago) and managed to fix it, IIRC, by wrapping the fully qualified name in brackets, e.g. [source table].[column name]. Something to try at any rate. share|improve this answer answered Jul 5 '11 at 19:28 Tim 3,8471860113 Yeah, I tried that but it still doesn't work. and reports automatically recognise the new field name. Microsoft has addressed some of the problems with this feature, but is it still buggy, incomplete, and a performance problem. The workaround is to turn the feature off: In Access 2010, click File | Options | Current Database, and scroll down to Name AutoCorrect Options. In Access 2007, click the Office Button | Access Options | Current Database, and scroll down to Name AutoCorrect Options. In Access 2000 - 2003, the Name AutoCorrect boxes are under Tools | Options | General. You must remember to do this every time you create a database, preferably before creating any other objects. (Note: this is not the same as AutoCorrect for spelling, which has none of these problems.)
