Solved Access 95 Runtime - Out of Memory error on WinXP Posted on 2005-04-01 MS Access 2 Verified Solutions 27 Comments 5,506 Views Last Modified: 2008-01-09 Hi, I have been running an Access 95 database using the Access 95 Runtime Distributable for many years now, in various locations and various systems, and am currently attempting to get it working on a networked version of Windows XP Professional (SP2). The problem is that whenever I run my shortcut to load the database I get an 'Out of Memory' error (that's all the dialog box says). I have tried just loading msaccess.exe, and I get the expected response ('can't find database: specify a database in the command line'), and have also tried using a simple database from The Access Web with the same Out of Memory result. Interestingly, if I supply the name of a file that doesn't exist, I also get the same error, which implies that it is not a problem with the mdb file. I have installed the runtime executable from the same install file onto other machines using Win2K which has been fine, however I initially had problems with NTFS directory permissions. The WinXP system uses Fat32 though, and I can write to the directories in question, so I don't think this is part of the problem. I have tried using Win98 compatability mode but this hasn't helped. I know that I should be able to get it to work on WinXP, as I have a similar DB running on another WinXP machine (can't remember which version) using the runtime distributables. I am on-site with a client so a speedy response would be much appreciated, hence 500 points. :) 0 Question by:FartingUncle Facebook Twitter Li
Professional and re-installed Office Processional 95. Access 95 will not launch and gets an error of "out of memory." Tried to reset the registry of "MaxBufferSize" for Jet 2.x, but it does not work. Need help! Thanks. Guest, Jul 10, 2007 #1 Advertisements Larry Daugherty Guest It's more than likely because you have too much memory for Access 95. If you have Virtual PC you can create a virtual machine with an earlier OS than XP on it or even another XP machine but with less than 1G of memory in either case for Access 95. You can put an earlier version of Office Pro or just Access on that virtual machine. Virtual PC is supposed to be included https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21372734/Access-95-Runtime-Out-of-Memory-error-on-WinXP.html free with the final release of Vista. I'm not running Vista so don't know if that's happened yet. If you have an earlier version of Access available, fire it up. If its Access 95 you can run from there. If it's later, you can convert the '95 mdbs to the later version. This is a bug in the version of Jet. In A97 it was fixed by one of the Jet 3.5 SPs. Try ACC95: Updated Jet DLLs for Access 95 and Jet 3.0 Available in Download Center http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q151186/ Also get Updated Vba232.dll available in Download Center http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q147529/ However KB article "Out of memory" error starting Microsoft Access" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/161255/en-us states "Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem with the Microsoft Jet Database Engine version 3.0 and 3.5. This problem no longer occurs in Microsoft Jet Database Engine version 3.51, which is available from Microsoft Download Center. " Therefore MS may never have patched this problem on A95. Of course I wonder why don't you move to at least Access 97. Tony -- Tony Toews, Microsoft Access MVP Please respond only in the newsgroups so that others can read the entire thread of messages. When I try to print a report with the Photos on it, it starts out ok but then starts dropping photos(show as blank) and eventually gets an out of memory error. -Running Access 2010 32 bit on 64 bit windows 7. Have 16 GB's of Ram... I have done this type of project before without any problems, but there were some major differences. First I was running Access 2002(XP) on windows XP machines and the tables linked to an Oracle database. Also the Photos were stored in a field in the table, not as a file reference. Still I don't under stand how it could run out of memory. For now I have the user scalling all of their photos down to the size of the Image control, but some are getting a bit grainy/blurry. I have no clue how else to fix this???
