I have been linking dfb files to MS Access 2003 for some time, always reading successfully. My client updated to 2007 a couple http://www.dbforums.com/showthread.php?1632358-Unexpected-error-from-external-database-driver-(8458) of months ago and again it was sucessfully reading the .dbf files until last week. Suddenly they are getting the error: Unexpected error from external database driver (8458) Thinking that maybe the dbf files were corrupt I tried linking and importing other .dbf files but get the same error. I transferred the files to another PC with Access 2003 and can successfully read the files. I have tried reinstalling Office 2007 but am still getting the same error. Any ideas? OS is WinXP Pro. Posted on 2000-12-12 MS Applications MS Access 1 Verified Solution 7 Comments 3,090 Views Last Modified: 2013-11-24 While trying to convert a DBASE .dbf file (Customer.dbf) to a MS ACCESS 2000 .mdb file (Customer.dbf) and after specifying which index files are associated with this database I received ms access the error message "Unexpected error from external driver (8458)." The existing application uses DBASE III or IV(unsure which version) to write the .dbf files. I want to take the .dbf format files and convert them to an MS Access 2000 .mdb file format. Apparently Access tried to read in the .dbf file and create an .mdb file but as a result of this error I got an empty .mdb database. My client is using a Windows 98 desktop PC and MS ms access error Access 2000. I tried reading the file in as DBASE III and DBASE IV file format, but in each case after I selected the dbf index files I received this error message. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Just recreate them once u got the table in the mdb. I know this is a clumsy way, but I don't see another one.
