Use Forms: Resolve #Name error in a #name access 2013 form/report Author(s) Dev Ashish (Q) Why do I get a #NAME error for ms access #name in report a calculated control on a form or a report? (A) You are probably using the same name for a calculated text box as one of the terms
#error Access
in the expression. In the following example, Access produces a #NAME error if you enter the expression in a control named City, State, or ZIP: =[City] & "", "" & [State] & "" "" & [ZIP] This creates a circular reference that may be resolved by changing the name of the control that contains this expression to something (anything) other than City, State, or ZIP. © 1998-2010, Dev Ashish & Arvin Meyer, All rights reserved. I then created a form and copied it 3 #name error in excel 2010 times (renaming the forms according to the table names). I changed the recource source in each form to reflect the corresponding table but now in some of

Any help would be great... thanks :) Jul 26 '07 #1 Post Reply Share this Question 4 Replies Expert Mod 10K+ P: 12,110 Rabbit It probably http://access.mvps.org/access/forms/frm0018.htm means your field names from your record source don't match up with the control source property of the controls on the form. Jul 26 '07 #2 reply P: 3 jkriner ok, I just copied the original form (ie. table09 goes with form09 and then I copied form09 3 times and renamed them form10, form 11, form12...there is data in each of the tables (table 9, table10, table11, table12) that shows up in the corresponding forms, but how do I get the fields to match up? I am somewhat https://bytes.com/topic/access/answers/683767-name-error-message-access-form clueless (as you can tell) when creating anything in access and that is why I copied the form three times so I wouldn't have to redesign it each time) thanks so much Jul 26 '07 #3 reply Expert 100+ P: 1,206 JKing First I suggest checking the record source for each form. Open up the form properties and make sure you have the right table set for each form. For example Form9 should be set as table9, form10 set as table10. Once this is done open the properties for any textboxes that are giving you a #name error. There is drop down for the control source property. Select the proper field name from the list. This should get rid of any errors you have. Jul 26 '07 #4 reply Expert Mod 10K+ P: 12,110 Rabbit If the tables have different field names, then the controls on the form that reference those field names will be wrong because they're using the field names from the original form. You have to change the control source property of the control to reflect the field names in the table. What do you mean by that? obatusai, Nov 13, 2008 #3 OBP Trusted Advisor Joined: Mar 8, 2005 Messages: 19,078 This error usually occurs when the Field Name in the Form's Field's Record Source Property does not match that of the Table or query providing the data. Have you checked the Form's "Field List"? If you can post a zipped copy of the database in Access 2003 version by converting it, we can look at it for you. Or post screenshots of the Table in ms access form design mode and the Form with a Field with the problem in design mode. You can then open a blank Excel Worksheet and Paste the "Image" in to it. Now open the Form in design view and click on a Filed that has the #name problem, make sure the the Properties are showing and then use the Prontscreen to capture the image and paste that in the Excel Sheet as well. Use the "Go Advanced" and "Manage Attachments" Buttons to post the Excel sheet as an Attachmnent. I basically just create a text field in a report, use the build tool to find the relevant field from a subreport/query, and then set it. I know the path is right for the control source because I am not typing it myself, I am selecting it. The field I am referencing still exists and is actually located where the controlsource is pointing. But for some reason, I get this error. It doesn't make sense. Can anyone please help? ms-access ms-access-2007 share|improve this question asked Jul 5 '11 at 19:24 jerry 89022251 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted Try naming the control differently from source name. For example, if you have field in the source called "Name", give the control name "Name_Textbox". Just to make sure you have two different names (source vs. control). I think I had these problems in previous versions of MS Access (e.g. 2003). share|improve this answer answered Jul 10 '11 at 6:34 Igor Turman 1,85511322 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote I've seen that error (long time ago) and managed to fix it, IIRC, by wrapping the fully qualified name in brackets, e.g. [source table].[column name]. Something to try at any rate. share|improve this answer answered Jul 5 '11 at 19:28 Tim 3,8471860113 Yeah, I tried that but it still doesn't work.
