It may be worth opening notepad so you can get the path right and then copy and paste. * Please note the quotes are required "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\MSACCESS.EXE" ".mdb" /wrkgrp ".mdw" /user Replace Office14 with your version of Microsoft Office that is installed. To find this, browse to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ and note the "Office" folder. So for access remove mdw security example, a correct path would look like: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\MSACCESS.EXE" "c:\test.mdb" /wrkgrp "c:\test.mdw" /user Before creating the shortcut, you can test if this will work by going Start > Run and pasting the path into the run box and clicking ok, if this fails then the shortcut will fail. Check the quotes and path to ensure they're correct. Once it opens via the run box you can then create the shortcut. Now when opening the newly created shortcut you should see the database open as normal and presented with a login screen. The DB was created by the previous old WPF application and I need to find a way to open it. I installed MS Access 2000 and used a program that generated the right password for the db but there is still this message that pops up: You do not have the necessary permissions to use C:/pathToDB.MDB object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you. Is http://stackoverflow.com/questions/24929114/you-do-not-have-the-necessary-permissions-to-use-msaccess-2000-db there a way to solve this problem? Many thanks. database ms-access share|improve this question asked Jul 24 '14 at 8:48 TAL 3828 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Earlier versions before 2007 had something called as the MDW (Microsoft Access Workgroup) file with the MDB . If you cannot find this, you can create one. To create this file, first create a new shortcut Right click New > Shortcut>. When asked type the location of the item. It should hopefully sort it out. share|improve this answer answered Jul 24 '14 at 8:55 PaulFrancis 4,8511827 Unfortunately this doesn't work. It just asked me for username and password before asking me for the password of the db and then showed me the same message. I'm afraid it has something to do with diferent kind of permissions –TAL Jul 24 '14 at 10:38 Can you find the MDW file? –PaulFrancis Jul 24 '14 at 11:10 No

I've applied all of the Permissions and Logon details to the database and until today everything was working well. I decided to tweak the permissions as I didn't want a particular group of uses to access the Design Area of the database. Since I've applied these settings I've been unable to open the database again. Instead of getting the Logon Box prompt, where I normally enter my ms access permissions Username & Password details instead the following error is displayed: "You do not have the necessary permissions to use the Database.mdb object. Have your system administrator or the person who created this object establish the appropriate permissions for you" I've tried Password Recovery Software which states that `no password has been set to the file`, which leads me to believe its purely a permissions issue. I can't get back into the database to change the permissions its not opening that far. I've also performed a Backup Restore on the network share to replace the file(s) to the same location but the Database detects this and doesn't seem to make any difference. Is there any possible way to resolve this problem, does MS Access store any files with Permission Credentials that can be edited? I'm at a loss with this and have spent numerous weeks trying to build the database, please help!! Many Thanks... Glad to hear you have a backup... Hopefully your backup was done before you screwed up your permissions. Keep copies of everything. Owner and Manager of CypherBYTE, Microsoft Access Develo
2003 user-level security in Access 2010 Applies To: Access 2010, Less Applies To: Access 2010 , More... Which version do I have? More... If you created a database in a previous version of Access and you applied user-level security to that database, those security settings remain in place when you open that file in Microsoft Access 2010. In addition, you can start the security tools provided by Microsoft Office Access 2003 — the User-Level Security Wizard and the various user and group permission dialog boxes — from Access 2010. This article explains how the Access 2003 security features work, and it explains how to start and use them in Access 2010. Note: The information in this article applies only to a database created in Access 2003 or earlier versions (an .mdb file). User-level security is not available for databases created in Access 2010 (.accdb files). Also, if you convert your .mdb file to the new format (an .accdb file), Access 2010 discards your user-level security settings. In this article How user-level security behaves in Access 2010 Overview of Access 2003 user-level security Set user-level security Remove user-level security Object permissions reference How user-level security behaves in Access 2010 Access 2010 provides user-level security only for databases that use Access 2003 and earlier file formats (.mdb and .mde files). In Access 2010, if you open a database created in an earlier version of Access, and that database has user-level security applied, that security feature will work as designed for that database. For example, users must enter a password to use the database. In addition, you can start and run the various security tools provided by Access 2003 and earlier versions, such as the User-Level Security Wizard and the various user and group permission dialog boxes. As you proceed, remember that those tools become available only when you open an .mdb or .mde file. If you convert the files to the Access 2010 file format, Access removes all existing user-level security features.
