The field is not calculated in any way. Here are a couple of the things I've tried: =Sum([txtWeldInches]) =Sum([WeldInches]) =Sum(CDbl([txtWeldInches])) =Sum(CDbl([WeldInches])) ...well you get the idea. Each iteration I've used results in the Text Box displaying #Error Without exception. I've used similar constructs in different forms in the same project, so I'm not sure what the problem might be. Has anyone run into this before? EDIT: I ended up writing a VBA routine to update the boxes when it was likely that they would be changed rather than trying to get a bound sum() function to work. ms-access ms-access-2007 share|improve this question edited Sep 3 '09 at 18:59 asked Sep 2 '09 at 18:25 Rister 391310 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted Is the field "WeldInches" existing in the data source for this form? What datatype the field "WeldInches" is? EDIT: I have looked at all your comments. If it doesn't work by databinding, try and use the unbounded way. At runtime, get the value of WeldInches using DSUM and set the footer textbox's value when the form loads. Also, remember to update it at places where you think the SUM could change. shar
of Use Reports: Show totals at bottom of report Author(s) Dev Ashish (Q) I want to show http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1369364/sum-on-a-form-footer-resulting-in-error a total at the bottom of each page, but I keep seeing #error instead, whats wrong? (A) Your problem is that access does not allow http://access.mvps.org/access/reports/rpt0004.htm the Sum() function in the page footer. So to get around the problem, create a control in another section of your report that performs the calculation, and set its visible property to false. Then create another unbound text box in the page footer. Enter the name of the control containing the calculation as the text boxes controlSource property setting. © 1998-2010, Dev Ashish & Arvin Meyer, All rights reserved. Im not sure if its an easy solution or not. Basically, I have got a report which, in the detail section are different text boxes called location, date, charge etc. These are created via a query. Basically when opening the report the ms access sum query will ask you to enter two dates, the report will then only show results which are between these two dates. Now, I wish to have all of the "charges" totaled up at the bottom of the report. If I create a text box with a control source of Sum=([Charge]) the only thing it brings back when the report is opened up is #error Interestingly enough, if i enter this sum textbox into the Detail section rather than the page footer it calculates the total fine. However I do not want this as it repeats this total below every single result the query finds. I really am not sure where I am going wrong and would be extremely grateful if someone could give some help Reply With Quote 04-10-09,21:46 #2 canupus View Profile View Forum Posts Registered User Join Date Jul 2004 Location South Dakota Posts 267 try =Sum(Charge) in the control source instead. I can't think for the life of me why this error keeps coming up, Access doesnt say there is a problem with the syntax... Reply With Quote 04-11-09,08:58 #4 Missinglinq View Profile View

I have followed the NWind database exactly (i hope). The conituous form uses a single table name as its record source. One of the fields is a number field (format - double). That field is called SysAffValueAmt. In the form footer is a text box with the control source: =Sum([SysAffValueAmt]) I have tried every other permutation of possible values to get this to work but no joy. Anyone know what i'm doing wrong? Thanks, Rob. Nov 13 '05 #1 Post Reply Share this Question 6 Replies P: n/a Brian Wilson "dkintheuk"
