The exact cause of this can vary but is most likely due to a performance counter registration related issue. This can happen when a previous version of the client was installed at one time and the unregister failed when it was uninstalled, or there could be registry / file permissions on the machine that are not allowing the creation of one of the temporary files needed to create and register the performance counters. To fix this we'll need to clean up the client in question in order to allow a proper re-installation. To do this open a CMD prompt on the client in question and run the following commands: regsvr32 /u mavcperf.dll and then mofcomp
Remko Weijnen 23 Oct I wanted to do an unattended install of the Microsoft App-V 5.0 SP1 client.I wanted to install using the MSI's instead of using the exe installer so I unpacked the MSI's from the installer as documented here. The install msi error 1603 unknown error 1603 failed however with MSI error 1603. I activated logging but that was not very msi error code 1603 helpful since it only logged "MainEngineThread is returning 1603".Manual install of the MSI gave a bettor error message:I had already installed msi installer error 1603 the MSVC++ 2005 SP1 runtime but the version was slightly lower.Unfortunately Microsoft doesn't publish the build numbers with their downloads so it takes some searching to determine the correct download.Version 8.0.61001 is labeled as "Microsoft https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/appv/2009/01/29/app-v-client-install-may-fail-with-error-1603-due-to-performance-counter-registration-errors/ Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package MFC Security Update" and can be downloaded here. There is a similar requirement for the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 runtime which should be at least 10.0.40219. This one is easier though because the required version is extracted together with the MSI files. As a final note you need to set the AcceptEULA MSI property to 1 for both the client and language pack MSI or http://www.remkoweijnen.nl/blog/2013/10/23/error-1603-when-installing-microsoft-app-v-5-0-sp1-client/ the install will fail.share: Bookmark on Delicious Digg this post Recommend on Facebook share via Reddit Share with Stumblers Tweet about it Subscribe to the comments on this postLike this:Like Loading...RelatedNo related posts.
