How to do? keyarc Nov 8, 2014 8:03 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/916899 PM I had installed Adobe Acrobat XI Pro and it worked for a few months. Then it stopped. I tried to repair it and could not - so I tried to uninstall. Most uninstalled, but there is still one "program" listed that cannot be uninstalled ( I get message: "This package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer Patch https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1630611 Package."). When I try to re-install, I get error message: "ERROR: Install MSI payload failed with error: 1636 - This update package could not be opened. Contact the application vendor to verify that this is a valid Windows Installer update package.MSI Error message:ERROR: Third party payload installer AcroPro.msi failed with exit code: 1636"I installed on HP Elitebook 8540w with Windows 7, x86Can anyone tell me how to fix this? I was already on live support with Adobe for 3 hours and they could not fix it. I really need help and need the software functioning again as it should. Answers 1 Got this error when deploying an msp to another package I made to 300+ Blade computers. The error did not appeared during QA (tested 4~8 times msi error on my own) nor during UAT (got 6 different UAT testers applying the patch before rolling it out). Out of the 300+, 94 blades presented the error. Running it again some of the failed ones didn't help, only solution was to re-run the original msi (which uninstalls itself then reinstalls) and then apply the patch. Both the patch and the msi were done in Wise, and both msi error code had a wrapper handling the command line and external logging. The patch only replaced a dll in %INSTALLDIR%, and was built by removing the dll and its component, then creating an entry into removefilestable to remove the old dll, then adding the new dll with a component built into a new feature marked as required. Not sure what went wrong, tomorrow will take a look to some of those equips.
