I've built a Basic MSI Project which installs some files as IIS virtual directories, runs an SQL script on a database, and https://community.flexerasoftware.com/showthread.php?137589-Error-2769-Custom-Action-did-not-close-MSIHANDLEs installs a COM+ Application. The install seems to go fine, right through running the SQL, then stops with out any error message and rollsback everything and says it interrupted before the product could be completely installed. In looking at the log file generated, it shows the following errors: Error 2769: Custom Action caExtractIISSuppFiles did not close 27 MSIHANDLEs Error 2769: Custom Action caRemoveVRoots did not close 1 MSIHANDLEs Error 2769: Custom Action caCreateVRoots did not close 1 MSIHANDLEs Even after throwing those errors, it looks like it continues on ok for awhile, and then all of a sudden it starts listing FileRemove and from that point on it seems like it's performing the rollback. But I can't find anything in the log that shows a clear "XYZ caused an Error: ROLLBACK" What should I be looking for? I've attached the log file if that is helpful to anyone? I have found a lot of posts with errors like this
Windows Installer (MSI) Error Messages I posted this on the MSDN boards, but it looks like I might get a better response here: When I go to install a web setup/deployment project either through the vs2003 IDE or using http://www.itninja.com/question/error-2769 the msi file on my machine or any machine, I get the following error immediately https://groups.google.com/d/topic/microsoft.public.platformsdk.msi/DOhnpOXmX8U before clicking any buttons: The installer was interrupted before [project] could be installed. You need to restart the installer to try again. Please note the following: I *can* run deployment projects for windows forms in VS2003 and I *can* run deployment projects for windows forms and web apps in VS2005 This problem occurrs regardless of the machine I try to deploy msi error to. I have reinstalled vs2003 (did not help) This is a recent problem - I have had VS2005 and VS2003 on the same machine for months with no trouble. I did recently install Web Deployment Projects for VS2005. I thought that might be the problem so I uninstalled that and reinstalled VS2003. Again no help. Here is the error from the msi log file: DEBUG: Error 2769: Custom Action WEBCA_EvaluateURLsNoFail did not close 1 MSIHANDLEs. installer error codes The version of msi.dll is 3.1.4000.2435 0 Comments [ + ] Show Comments Comments Please log in to comment Rating comments in this legacy AppDeploy message board thread won't reorder them,so that the conversation will remain readable. Answers 0 It appears that there is a problem with the Custom Action named "WEBCA_EvaluateURLsNoFail". Have you created this custom action, or is it just part of the Visual Studio deployment template? If possible, before you compile the project, check this custom action's code to ensure all is well. Answered 06/19/2006 by: coach24 Please log in to comment Please log in to comment 0 I've just googled "WEBCA_EvaluateURLsNoFail" and what many sites suggest is that the default location of your IIS files are different to that of the default installation (C:\inetpub\wwwroot\) Is this true in your scenario? Answered 06/19/2006 by: brenthunter2005 Please log in to comment Please log in to comment 0 No it is not. In fact, in the midst of all this mess, I actually uninstalled and reinstalled IIS. I received the MSI error before and after the reinstall. Answered 06/20/2006 by: coach24 Please log in to comment Please log in to comment 0 SOLVED.
