unit, but comes back in a day, a week, etc: Reading through other threads regarding the U99 error, it seems that SOMETHING changed with TV Guide panasonic dmr-ez27 u99 error Onscreen IN AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2005 (many locations and cable carriers) that caused this problem with Panasonic products. I suggest we all try to call Panasonic (800-211-7262) and TV Guide Onscreen (800-386-7380) to try to resolve this. My E85 had NO problems since November 2004 panasonic f60 error code until late Aug-early September when U99 started appearing for me and many others, too. Other threads seem to have this error (intermittent U99, not the "non-functional lock-up" U99) narrowed down to the TV Guide Onscreen. I'm convinced this is a RECENT occurence, so please call and bug them until it's fixed! I'll re-post if I find out anything when I start my calls today. 0 Trophy Points: 16 I have not called yet and have not had the U99 error since 9/30/05. Other people have called to little avail. If anyone looks at this thread, revert back to this one: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/11/143317 Coyote24, Oct 5, 2005 #2 mtlove Member Joined: Oct 7, 2005 Messages: 5 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 11 I recieved an e-mil from TV Guide On Screen today, and this is what I've been told has worked for some other people w/ the U99 problem. 1. Turn on your player. (But not in the TV Guide menu.) 2. Press & Hold the channel Up AND the channel Down button on the machine. 3. Wait until the unit says "BYE" and turns off. 4. Unplug the player, wait 30seconds. 5. Plug the player back in, turn on & re-enter setup. If the U99 error comes back on my player, I'll post again. But IMO, this is something so freakin' simple, that Panny or TVGOS or both should have an alert on their webpage, notifying people that they can fix the U99 problem in under 5min! EDITED: it took less than 24 hours for U99 to come back. well that didn't take long Last edited: Oct 9, 2005 mtlove, Oct 7, 2005 #3 rekoj Member Joined: Oct 8, 2005 Messages: 29 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 11 I have Panasonic SC-HT1500 Home Theater System with 80GB HDD and TV Guide OnScreen - bought on 10/04/2005. (2) All u99's happened after the hard drive was more than 50% full (may not be relevant however). (3) When I do a "Divide" on the DMR-E80H, it takes about 6 seconds. On the 85H, it takes almost 12 seconds - twice as long! This makes no sense, as the 85H is newer, and should be at least the same if not faster - not slower! (4) While talking to the Panasonic support http://forums.afterdawn.com/threads/panasonic-u99-error-code-intermittent-when-machine-is-off-and-tv-guide-on-screen.390082/ (?) people, they say they have never heard of this error. From reading previous threads on this board, that can't be true. (5) My feeling is that a software (firmware) glitch is at fault, and a file "directory" area is being written with bogus data (probably video data) and when the firmware tries to make sense of it, it throws up and generates the "Error U99". I was told this is a "Hard Drive Failure" error. I have thoroughly tested the hard drive when this has happened, and no hard errors are found. http://forums.afterdawn.com/threads/panasonic-dmr-e85h-error-u99.332385/ (6) It seems to me if we could get the specifications of their file structure on the hard drive, most - if not all - of the data could be recovered. I have 2 hard drives with lots of video I would like to recover on them. The third drive I allowed the unit to re-format (after first running FDISK on it with a PC to force the re-format.) I would be interested if anyone has gotten any further with this. I saw someone said "Best Buy" was able to recover a U99 system, but I sure don't know how they did it. Panasonic's answer was to replace the hard drive. I also think they should FIX the firmware, and offer to replace the firmware board on those units. Perhaps if we all got together, we could force a "Recall" on that unit to fix the bug. The best way to prove the bug is the difference in the time it takes the older 80H versus the newer 85H. Oh, and if anyone has that "new" 400 GB unit I've seen advertised (but it hasn't shown up in any stores local to me), I would like to know how long it takes to do a "divide" on that unit! If anyone wants to discuss this privately, my email is "Roger (at) DXCC.COM". Thanks! Roger K2SMN, Jan 4, 2005 #1 chump05 Guest I had the EXACT problem 2 days ago.
