Panasonic Dmr-ez49v Error U99
Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 16 Regarding Panasonic DVD Recorders (E50H, E85H, E95H, etc) and U99 error code that occurs when Recorder is OFF and is OK once you power up the unit, but comes back in a day, a week, etc: Reading through other threads regarding the U99 error, it seems that SOMETHING changed with TV Guide Onscreen IN AUGUST-SEPTEMBER 2005 (many locations and cable carriers) that caused this http://av.jpn.support.panasonic.com/support/global/cs/dvd/faq/ww/faq20.html problem with Panasonic products. I suggest we all try to call Panasonic (800-211-7262) and TV Guide Onscreen (800-386-7380) to try to resolve this. My E85 had NO problems since November 2004 until late Aug-early September when U99 started appearing for me and many others, too. Other threads seem to have this error (intermittent U99, not the "non-functional lock-up" U99) narrowed down to the TV Guide Onscreen. I'm convinced this is a http://forums.afterdawn.com/threads/panasonic-u99-error-code-intermittent-when-machine-is-off-and-tv-guide-on-screen.390082/ RECENT occurence, so please call and bug them until it's fixed! I'll re-post if I find out anything when I start my calls today. Other people have called to little avail. Turn on your player. (But not in the TV Guide menu.) 2. Press & Hold the channel Up AND the channel Down button on the machine. 3. Wait until the unit says "BYE" and turns off. 4. Unplug the player, wait 30seconds. 5. Plug the player back in, turn on & re-enter setup. If the U99 error comes back on my player, I'll post again. But IMO, this is something so freakin' simple, that Panny or TVGOS or both

By Roger W. Amidon February 22, 2005 In September 2003 I bought a Panasonic DMR-E80H DVD recorder. This unit was really neat and worked well. Using the "high speed" copy, it took 58 minutes to burn a DVD with 2 hours of "SP" quality video. Certainly better than taking 2 hours! Well, in April of 2004 I saw the new DMR-E85H. It had a 120 GB Hard drive, a 4X DVD-ROM drive, and other features that looked really good. I bought one. The first time I burned a DVD, it took 12 minutes to burn a 2-hour DVD! Much better than 58 minutes! Also, you could be burning a DVD and still use the machine to play or record another show. It also had a new "8-hour" EP mode. Great for recording talk shows (I can put 16 Nightlines on one DVD…) A really sweet machine. I told all my friends how neat it was, and probably helped Panasonic to sell 3-4 more machines. A few months later, while dividing a file, my machine froze up. After a while, it put up an error "U99". The machine wouldn't respond to the remote, and I finally had to hold the power button for 10 seconds before it finally shut off. When I turned it on, it went into "Self-Check" for a long time and then showed the "U99" error again. I called Panasonic tech support. I was told it was a defective Hard Drive (see Letter to Panasonic). After this had happened 3 times, I decided to get serious about getting Panasonic to look into this. I must have talked to 6 different "Tech Support" people for over a month. I tried to explain that it wasn't a defective hard drive, but they wouldn't listen. One guy said "This is the first time I have ever heard of this error, and I have been doing this for over a year." I was to
