Everytime I try to install itunes I get the following message:"The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package. This may indicate a a problem with this package. The error code is 2356."However after I click ok, the installer continues to run and itunes appears to install perfectly. (I've never had any problems with it other than this one.)The only reason it is an issue, is i'm pretty sure this problem is why my iphone won't upgrade/restore and gets stuck in recovery mode.I've tried installing quicktime seperately, following the apple troubleshoot docs, uninstalling and wiping every trace of itunes from my computer but I still get this message. Does anyone have any suggestions? Windows XP Posted on Oct 11, 2009 7:42 AM I have this question too Close Q: Error code 2356?! I have given a method below which includes cleaning up if any of the uninstalls fail.Download a fresh copy of iTunes and the stand alone version of Quicktime (the one without iTunes)http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/win.htmlhttp://www.apple.com/itunes/download/Save the files on your PC.(You only need the cleanup utility is one of your uninstalls fail.)Download and install Microsoft Installer cleanup utility, there are instructions on the page as well as the download. Note that what you download is the installer not the program - you have to run it to install the program. The installer doesn't give any message to confirm the installation.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/(To run the program - All Programs>>Windows Install)Now use the following method to remove iTunes and its components:XPhttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925Vistahttp://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923*If you hit a problem with one of the

Thank you very much Answered 10/31/2006 by: crajshekhar Please log in to comment Please log in to comment 0 I am using MS Windows Installer( .msi ), Visual Studio 2005 on Windows XP SP2, and edited the MSI with Orca. The edited installation file works on my development system, but I get the 2356 error message when I copy it to a remote server and attempt to install it. I installed Orca on the remote system ( Windows Server 2000 ), but it still doesn't work. The unedited .msi installs fine. Any ideas? Answered 0
