There are about 15 files on the disc, and the first one opens fine. However, attempting to open any of the others results in an error -50.I can't find an explanation for this error and was wondering if there's any way of converting the files to make them work? Many thanks!Phil PowerBook G4, Mac OS X (10.3.9) Posted on Nov 19, 2005 1:29 AM I have this question too Close Q: Quicktime not playing .avi files (error -50) All replies Helpful answers by Dick Napoli, Dick Napoli Nov 19, 2005 3:04 AM in response to Philip Cooper1 Level 6 (9,740 points) Nov 19, 2005 3:04 AM in response to Philip Cooper1 As you have found there are problems with playing some avi/divx files in QT 7. The divx folks have apparently solved the problem and the newest version is included in Toast 7. If you don't want to buy that $100 program you may not be able to view those files in QT until someone else releases a decompressor that works with with QT 7. Until then you may be able to view them using this alternative freeware viewer: VLC Helpful (0) Reply options Link to this post This site contains user submitted content, comments and opinions and is for informational purposes only. and installed some things like DivX, 3ivX, and AC3, but nothing works. Every time I try to open the movie I get "QuickTime cannot open the file... an unknown error occurred (-50)". Restarting has done nothing to alleviate this problem. Does anyone here have an idea as to what I could do? Thanks! Fluck05-21-2005, 11:09 AMThe file you are trying to https://discussions.apple.com/thread/237749?start=0&tstart=0 watch probably uses one of those stupd rare codecs....I've read that no matter what quicktime avi plugins usually dont work. I know this might come off as a shock, but if worse comes to worse, you could always try *Gasp* Windows Media Player for OSX http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/software/Macintosh/osx/default.aspx The other alternative ive read about is a program called VLC, that is aparently pretty https://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-38259.html good. The bad news is that aparently they stopped development of it The only problem so far with that is some of the newer codecs wont be recognized by the program and never will. Hope this helps. MrToast05-21-2005, 11:25 AMThanks for the suggestion, D.J. I didn't think of using WMP, but again it unfortunately didn't work. I failed to mention in my original question that I'd also tried VLC and mPlayer, but neither of those worked, either. Thanks, Dave jdiwnab05-21-2005, 11:57 AMAVI files are kinda fickle. I can think of a few options: 1) search Version Tracker (http://www.versiontracker.com/) for AVI players/plugins 2) look at the Apple Discussions Fourms (http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?14@206.qdaEaBnjXJe.0@.eedee82) for answers or even ask there 3) use a friends peecee and see if you can use a converter to Quicktime Jason Rudolph05-21-2005, 01:18 PMWhen you open the file, hit command-i and look at the file info to see what codec it was encoded as. There are a number or codecs out there that simply cannot be played on a mac. Sometimes, your only option is to find a PC and re-encode t
movies. It says it doesn't recognize the format -2048. Can somebody please help me? I don' know what this means and some files https://www.moviecodec.com/general/keep-getting-quicktime-error-2048-14157/ are important to me 12-27-2005 01:06 PMomsalcedo I'm in the same boat http://www.kenstone.net/discussions/read.php?3,36671,36676 - anybody got any ideas? Not sure if its a codec problem? 02-07-2006 02:04 PMkicksb4food Feedback you could try this MPEG-2 Codec http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Codec-Packs-Video-Codecs/Stinkys-MPEG-Codec.shtml let me know if it helps 02-07-2006 09:16 PMtrance_aquarius41 posts Feedback Since neither of the other two who posted the question replied to your query quicktime error and helpful answer, I will. Thanks for the tip, unfortunatly it still does not play in quicktime. From reading the readme.txt that comes along with the codec, it is designed for Windows Media Player among others. I (like the other two) am trying to use quicktime so that I can export it to a MOV file. In my case it is quicktime error 50 to turn around and import into AVID which will not accept MPG files. 03-02-2006 02:11 PMt001z Feedback I get the same error, but I get it when I try to play some videos (.mpgs, .m2v) 03-15-2006 06:38 PMtoona Feedback i'm having the same shetty prob on my intel/mac. still no solutions?? tried running the files thru multiple codecs too w/ no luck..wthell? 03-18-2006 02:59 AMdj777 Feedback I already tried what trance_aquarius suggested. The problem is that the site he suggests is for windows only and I use a Mac. (if there is a Mac alternative please guide me to it). What I've been using to watch the movies that give me the error message is a program called VLC. I don't know what it does or whats the difference exactly but at least I can watch them. It's cumbersome but it can be done. I've tried with several codecs and Mpeg-2 etc.. and I keep getting the same message. 03-18-2006 01:00 PMomsalcedo Feedback if you're using a mac, to solve this problem: download a program call mPlayerOSX. http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html
project was edited in FCPX. My work flow from FCX is Share/YouTube, I fill in the necessary YT blanks and choose 1080p & better quality(multi-pass). I have tried 3 times and always get the same warning Quicktime Error;-50. The Share Monitor advises that it has 100% uploaded in 1:16:25. Any suggestion? Check that the codec used by the file is recommended for use in your editing application. Suggested Actions * If your sequence codec is set to a long-GOP codec such as HDV, H.264, XDCAM, AVCHD or MPEG-2, set your sequence codec to ProRes. * For best results, convert all long-GOP media to ProRes. * Make sure all images are RGB, not CMYK. * Ensure all images are less than 4000 pixels in width and height. * Use Corrupt Clip Finder to locate the corrupt clip. * After the corrupt file is located, use QT Repair or Media Salvage to fix it. * Make sure your files do not have Digital Rights Management (DRM) that prevent them being played outside of their intended application. Some files purchased from the iTunes Store will have DRM. * Make sure you are using AIFF or WAV audio files.
