This discussion is locked Super TWiT Level 1 (0 points) Q: Quicktime Error -8971 Unknown Error I am trying to playback video found at the Internet Archives, and when I try to open .mp4s I get an error from quicktime saying that it can't open these files due to an unknown error. I am running quicktime 6.5.2. I think these files might need a divx codec. Is there any way I can get a divx codec plugin for quicktime. It needs to be a lightweight codec as I am running on an imac g3. Any ideas. iMac G3 233 MHZ Tray-Loader, Mac OS X (10.3.x) Posted on Aug 10, 2009 3:39 PM I have this question too Close Q: Quicktime Error -8971 Unknown Error All replies Helpful answers by K Shaffer, K Shaffer Aug 12, 2009 9:53 PM in response to Super TWiT Level 6 (14,587 points) Desktops Aug 12, 2009 9:53 PM in response to Super TWiT There may be a later QuickTime player available for Panther10.3.9; some indications suggest there may be one.Have you tried VLC Player? Jeannie19 Mar 27, 2011 12:44 PM I'm new to Lightroom 3. I made a slideshow and followed all the directions in the manual to make the slideshow and save it through export video. When I went to send it as an email attachment I got an error message it could not open the file because of an error code 8971. What does that mean? I also wanted to add some music and selected that option which took me to My Music--the folders were there but the playlists under the album were not so I couldn't select them for my slideshow. In the tutorial Ms. Kost seemed to have a different box where the music files were that were compatible with Lightroom 3. I couldn't find those anywhere. Jeannie 19 I have the same question Show 0 Likes(0) 1400Views Tags: none (add) This content has been marked as final. Show 5 replies 1. Re: What is error 8971 when saving a slideshow as an MP4 movie? Jeannie19 Mar 27, 2011 2:28 PM (in response to Jeannie19) Converted one song to MP3 and was able to insert it into the slideshow. I had to go online and look for MP3 and MP4 converters and was able to download a free one to convert the file. Then I thought I could rerender it and it would save as a video file with the audio file, but it did not. Still no luck saving and then reopening the file to play. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: What is error 8971 when saving a slideshow as an MP4 movie? Pete Marshall Mar 27, 2011 4:25 PM (in response to Jeannie19) That's a Quick Time error, you are lacking a required video codec on your machine. Try downloading and installing the latest version of Quick Time. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3. Re: What is error 8971 when saving a slideshow
