WWW FAQs: Why do I see a blue QuickTime question mark instead of Flash movies? 2007-11-05: You are seeing a blue question mark and a QuickTime logo on lots of websites. The contents should be playing in Macromedia Flash Player, but you see an error message from QuickTime instead. What's the problem? You have Apple's QuickTime player software. Recent versions of Apple's QuickTime player software sometimes consider themselves to be the official player for Flash file formats as well. Unfortunately, they can't actually handle some Flash files. So you see the question mark... And no useful error message! Way to go, Apple. Ouch! Can we fix it? On Windows, yes— there is a simple fix which I will describe below. On MacOS X, a similar series of steps usually does the job just as well. How To Solve The Problem On Windows Just follow these steps (for Windows— see below for the Mac

Encoding problem? up vote 3 down vote favorite I have a video that fails to play in the QuickTime plugin in Internet Explorer on Windows 7, but it plays fine in the standalone QuickTime player. I suspect that this may be an encoding problem, and I wanted to ask the experts. I did not personally encode this video, but I am assigned to troubleshoot the problem. If it is, in fact, an encoding problem, I http://video.stackexchange.com/questions/10417/video-fails-to-play-in-qt-browser-plugin-encoding-problem would like to be able to point to specific evidence. MediaInfo says there's a stream with ID #2 it calls "Menu". Could that be messing up IE? What is the failure -- does it play at all, or play badly (corruption etc)? –Jim Mack Mar 19 '14 at 21:35 1 Have you tried it on more than one computer? My guess is something is wrong with the configuration of how IE tries to use QuickTime on that particular computer. –AJ Henderson♦ Mar 19 '14 at 22:22 @JimMack It doesn't play at all. I get a question mark over the QuickTime icon. I wasn't able to determine any way to access an error log or similar from QuickTime. –Dustin Rasener Mar 20 '14 at 13:23 @AJHenderson I'm able to play the video in many other ways. I'm trying to fix this particular use case not for me, but for other users who have this issue. A workaround is OK (i.e. use another browser, or download and open in QT proper), but a fix on our side would be preferable. –Dustin Rasener Mar 20 '14 at 13:24 @DustinRasener - I thoug

not working in my Internet Explorer. I was using version 6.x and upgrade to V7.0 in hopes of resolving this. Didn't work. The quicktime link/window shows up on the webpage, then becomes faded with a question mark in the center. I am current on all the updates from Microsoft and am wondering if an ActiveX update from Microsoft may have caused this? Be that as it may, I am looking for a solution. I have set my security and provacy settings within IE to default, stopped and restarted IE with no change. I am running V7.1 of quicktime. web-browsers jps 1 post since Jul 2006 Newbie Member 6Contributors 5Replies 6Views 10 YearsDiscussion Span 8 Years Ago Last Post by Dale Fletcher 0 FC Jamison 31 10 Years Ago It's not your browser, it's the settings in the quicktime player. The real fun is that you can't view Flash files, either. Open the Quicktime Player, got to Edit->Preferences->QuickTime Preferences Click on the Browser tab and then click on the MIME Settings button. Under Video, verify that both QuickTime Movie options are checked (all others are optional) Under miscellaneous, uncheck the Flash Media button. Click OK then select the File Types tab Under video, ensure both QuickTime Movie options are checked Under Miscellaneous, uncheck the Flash Media option Also, under the streaming tab, select automatic and check instant on. This should fix your problem. 0 dan411 9 Years Ago What if you have this problem, but on a Mac OS X? I tried doing what you said, but its not working.
