This documentation is archived and is not being maintained. Managing Data Sources After you have installed an ODBC driver from the driver's setup program, you can define one or more data sources for it. The data source name (DSN) should provide a unique description of the data; for example, Payroll or Accounts Payable. The user and system data sources that are defined for all currently installed drivers

are listed in the User DSN or System DSN tabs of the ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box. The file data sources in a given directory are listed in the File DSN tab; the directory to be shown is entered in the Look in box in the File DSN tab.Note To manage a data source that connects to a 32-bit driver under 64-bit platform, use c:\windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe. To manage a data source that connects to a 64-bit driver, use c:\windows\system32\odbcad32.exe. In Administrative Tools on a 64-bit Windows 8 operating system, there are icons for both the 32-bit and 64-bit ODBC Data Source Administrator dialog box.If you use the 64-bit odbcad32.exe to configure or remove a DSN that connects to a 32-bit driver, for example, Driver do Microsoft Access (*.mdb), you will receive the following error message: Copy The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application To resolve this error, use the 32-bit odbcad32.exe to configure or remove the DSN.A data source associates a particular ODBC driver with the data you want to access through that driver. For example, you might create a data source to use the ODBC dBASE driver to access one or more dBASE files found in a specific directory on your hard disk or a network drive. Usi

In order for the ODBC database link to work in the 64-bit version of ioGAS then the 64-bit ODBC drivers need to be installed. This will happen automatically if a 64-bit version of Microsoft Office is installed. Alternatively, install the 32-bit version of ioGAS (on the 64-bit machine) and the ODBC connection can run with the 32-bit Microsoft Office ODBC drivers. This will fix a common error trying to add or configure a database http://www.tech-recipes.com/rx/32525/odbc-error-the-specified-dsn-contains-an-architecture-mismatch/ source in Windows 7. When attempting to add a new data http://www.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21651061 source on my Windows 7 64-bit machine, I ran into this frustrating error. I needed to create a data source with a Microsoft Access Driver and experienced the following error: Driver's ConfigDSN, ConfigDriver, or ConfigTranslator failed Errors Found: The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the the specified Driver and Application This is due to the fact that Microsoft Access is a 32-bit program with 32-bit drivers which is causing the compatibility issues. Windows 7 64-bit has two different versions of the ODBC Data Source Administrator. The ODBC Data Source Administrator that is reached through the Control Panel is the 64-bit version. What we need to do the specified dsn is use the 32-bit version of the ODBC Data Source Administrator instead. 1 Navigate to c:\Windows\sysWOW64\odbcad32.exe You can use the search feature as there are a lot of files in this folder if needed. 2 Double click to start the executable. You should have no problems adding the 32-bit based driver to your 64-bit machine. About Chris Luongo Chris is a self-taught web designer and developer out of Atlanta, GA. Symptom The error message returned from the Microsoft ODBC Driver Manager states: ERROR [IM014] [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] The specified DSN contains an architecture mismatch between the Driver and Application Cause The cause of the problem is that the ODBC application is compiled within Visual Studio and targeted as 'Any CPU' which means the application will run on either a 32-bit or 64-bit platform. The problem with this is that if the application is deployed on a 64-bit platform and utilizes a 32-bit ODBC provider, the application expects to utilize a 64-bit provider. Environment Windows Diagnosing the problem The best way to diagnose the problem is to use Microsoft's Process Monitor and filter on the application executable to view what libraries the application is attempting to load prior to the failure. Resolving the problem To resolve the problem, one needs to compile the application within Visual Studio targeted for an 'x86' CPU. This will ensure that the application attempts to load the 32-bit ODBC provider instead of the 64-bit one. You can do this by right clicking on your project and selecting Properties. In the build tab, you will find the Platform Target (ANY CPU, x86, x64 or Itanium).
