my posts, some readers asked me if this is the ultimate reason for this error. The answer is: it is not! Since system error 64 has occurred.the specified network name is no longer available. the error 64 is generic it needs to be carefully interpreted, my previous post about this error mentions the “error 64” with the message: “host not available”. This post will explain in more details why the

error message below showed in the ISA Server 2006 Logging could occur while you are browsing Internet. Figure 1 – Another error 64. The error above was caught while the user was trying to browse www.fabrikam.com and download the Windows XP SP2 file. To simulate this problem I used the following lab: Figure 2 – Lab used to simulate this problem. 2. Understanding the nature of this error The the operating system returned the error 64 the specified network name is no longer available 64: "The specified network name is no longer available" is a win32 error originally called ERROR_NETNAME_DELETED, this error is mapped in the winerror.h as: // // MessageId: ERROR_NETNAME_DELETED // // MessageText: // // The specified network name is no longer available. // In the network level, this problem could be cause by: Network connectivity problems have various causes, but they typically occur because of incorrect network adapters, incorrect switch settings, faulty hardware, or driver issues. Some connectivity symptoms are intermittent and do not clearly point to any one of these causes. Per KB325487. Which means that is more under the TCP/IP level, which is controlled by the Windows OS rather than ISA Server itself. 3. Simulating the Problem To simulate this problem I used a tool called Network Emulator for Windows and added high latency and random packet loss. Besides I also used the Web Application Stress Tool to add more load to my web server and really simulate a situation where server is busy. Now let’s take a look in the netmon trace got from the external interface of the ISA Server: ISA Server sends the HTTP GET for the destination server: 12:39:13.355 192.168.1.113 192.168.1.95 HTTP HTTP:Request, GET / - Http: Request, GET / Command: GET + URI: / ProtocolVersion: HTTP/1.1 V

SQL Server > SQL Server Database Engine Question 0 Sign the specified network name is no longer available server 2012 in to vote Hi I have a maintenance plan for taking the bakup of a database. Size of the database is "5 GB". The maintenance https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/yuridiogenes/2008/11/23/error-64-the-specified-network-name-is-no-longer-available-while-browsing-internet-through-isa-server-2006/ plan was working fine last month. But it is currently failing each day with the following errorExecuting the query "BACKUP DATABASE [Projcom] TO DISK = N'\\\\aaa102252net\\MHA102963$\\DailyBackup\\ComDB_Backup\\Com_backup_200910292345.bak' WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT, NAME = N'Com_backup_20091029234523', SKIP, REWIND, NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10" failed with the following error: "A nonrecoverable I/O error occurred on file "\\\\aaa102252net\\MHA102963$\\DailyBackup\\ComDB_Backup\\Com_backup_200910292345.bak:" 64(The specified https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/8d55644b-96ba-449b-ac35-403e7fdd71a2/maintenance-plan-for-db-backup-failed-with-the-error-64the-specified-network-name-is-no-longer?forum=sqldatabaseengine network name is no longer available.).BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.10 percent processed.20 percent processed.30 percent processed.40 percent processed.50 percent processed.60 percent processed.70 percent processed.80 percent processed.90 percent processed.Processed 467824 pages for database 'Projcom', file 'Projcom' on file 1.100 percent processed.Processed 6 pages for database 'Projcom', file 'Projcom_log' on file 1.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. But I am getting the bakup file. For Info there is no change in the n/w setting. We have applied the regular hotfixed released from MS.I have searched the net for the solution, MS has proposed for some hotfixes. My question is how it was working before, and how i am getting the backup file with the backup failure message. Can I rely upon the backup file I am getting ?? "orphanedusers" → "The specified network name is no longer available" - SQL Backup problemsolved! Veröffentlicht am Januar 27, 2012 von Dirk Hondong A few of you may (or may not) know that my colleagues https://dirkhondong.wordpress.com/2012/01/27/the-specified-network-name-is-no-longer-available-sql-backup-problem-solved/ and I are using Ola Hallengren’s famous Maintenance Solution. If you never heard http://serverfault.com/questions/289714/sql2k8-backups-over-an-nfs-mounted-san of it before then please take a look: http://ola.hallengren.com/ For native SQL backups we have no dedicated disk space on our database servers. Instead we´re running native backups over the network and place them on a UNC path. I know that it is probably not best practice but it fits for our the specified environment (or to quote André Kamman (blog | twitter): “It works for me!”) very well. It is Murphy´s law that sometimes things can go wrong. So it happened on a few machines that the backup was created but finished with an error: The operating system returned the error '64(The specified network name is no longer available.)‘ while attempting ‚FlushFileBuffers‘ on ‚\\OurBackupServer\ourshare$\OurServer\OurDatabase\FULL\ OurServer_OurDatabase_FULL_20111021_041523.bak‘ So we did a the specified network little bit of research and even talked to Ola Hallengren when we visited SQLBits 9. His assumption was some kind of timeout. Since this error only occurred on some test machines we didn´t spent too much time investigating / solving the issue (we could live with it) until it happened also in a productive environment. Then we came across a msdn forum entry (take a look here) and tried the mentioned solution to create a DWORD with name ‘Sesstimeout’ and value 360 in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\parameters. And that was the solution. Since we´ve modified the registry on the involved SQL Servers the backups running fine without any issues. Gefällt mir:Gefällt mir Lade... The SQL2K8 server runs off our VMWare Host and it losses network connection when this backup happens. I tend to think its a number of factors but I am learning towards the size of the database and the fact we are trying to back up a database of the size over NFS. I have done some looking around and there is nothing that stands out saying this is a bad thing but nothing that say its a good thing. We are running compression on the database but since it is mostly compressed images it really does not make a bit of difference as far as the size goes. Has anyone run across anything like this? sql-server-2008 windows-server-2008-r2 vmware-esx share|improve this question asked Jul 13 '11 at 3:12 enterzero 395415 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote I have discovered what the issue is, the error I am getting from SQL is stating that the network path is no longer available. This in conjunction that I have just discovered that the interface is set to 100Mbps on our QNAP device that is running SATA disks ( http://www.wdc.com/global/products/specs/?driveID=610&language=1 ) in RAID5 and the from what I have read SQL Server seems really touchy about backing up onto network drives. Here is some information I have collected that might be useful to other people that run into this problem. Error Message BackupIoRequest::ReportIoError: write failure on backup device ''.
