If you have the space, I would backup to a local drive first, then move the file across the network to the remote server. SQL Server > SQL Server Database Engine Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi I have http://www.sqlservercentral.com/Forums/Topic356923-5-1.aspx a maintenance plan for taking the bakup of a database. Size of the database is "5 GB". The maintenance plan was working fine last month. But it is currently failing each day with the following errorExecuting the query "BACKUP DATABASE [Projcom] TO DISK = https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/sqlserver/en-US/8d55644b-96ba-449b-ac35-403e7fdd71a2/maintenance-plan-for-db-backup-failed-with-the-error-64the-specified-network-name-is-no-longer?forum=sqldatabaseengine N'\\\\aaa102252net\\MHA102963$\\DailyBackup\\ComDB_Backup\\Com_backup_200910292345.bak' WITH NOFORMAT, NOINIT, NAME = N'Com_backup_20091029234523', SKIP, REWIND, NOUNLOAD, STATS = 10" failed with the following error: "A nonrecoverable I/O error occurred on file "\\\\aaa102252net\\MHA102963$\\DailyBackup\\ComDB_Backup\\Com_backup_200910292345.bak:" 64(The specified network name is no longer available.).BACKUP DATABASE is terminating abnormally.10 percent processed.20 percent processed.30 percent processed.40 percent processed.50 percent processed.60 percent processed.70 percent processed.80 percent processed.90 percent processed.Processed 467824 pages for database 'Projcom', file 'Projcom' on file 1.100 percent processed.Processed 6 pages for database 'Projcom', file 'Projcom_log' on file 1.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. But I am getting the bakup file. For Info there is no change in the n/w setting. We have applied the regular hotfixed released from MS.I have searched the net for
"orphanedusers" → "The specified network name is no longer available" - SQL Backup problemsolved! Veröffentlicht am Januar 27, 2012 von Dirk Hondong A few of you may (or may not) know that my colleagues and I are using Ola https://dirkhondong.wordpress.com/2012/01/27/the-specified-network-name-is-no-longer-available-sql-backup-problem-solved/ Hallengren’s famous Maintenance Solution. If you never heard of it before then please take http://serverfault.com/questions/437505/sql-2008-backups-to-unc-share-failing-0xc002f210 a look: http://ola.hallengren.com/ For native SQL backups we have no dedicated disk space on our database servers. Instead we´re running native backups over the network and place them on a UNC path. I know that it is probably not best practice but it fits for our environment (or to quote André Kamman (blog | twitter): “It works the specified for me!”) very well. It is Murphy´s law that sometimes things can go wrong. So it happened on a few machines that the backup was created but finished with an error: The operating system returned the error '64(The specified network name is no longer available.)‘ while attempting ‚FlushFileBuffers‘ on ‚\\OurBackupServer\ourshare$\OurServer\OurDatabase\FULL\ OurServer_OurDatabase_FULL_20111021_041523.bak‘ So we did a little bit of research and even talked to Ola Hallengren when we visited SQLBits 9. His assumption the specified network was some kind of timeout. Since this error only occurred on some test machines we didn´t spent too much time investigating / solving the issue (we could live with it) until it happened also in a productive environment. Then we came across a msdn forum entry (take a look here) and tried the mentioned solution to create a DWORD with name ‘Sesstimeout’ and value 360 in HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\lanmanworkstation\parameters. And that was the solution. Since we´ve modified the registry on the involved SQL Servers the backups running fine without any issues. Gefällt mir:Gefällt mir Lade... We take backups of all of our production databases to a network share, which are then backed up to tape nightly. 8pm Mon-Fri - Full backup, followed by log backup 7am-7pm Mon-Fri, at half-hour interval - Log backup Our backups have been working in this manner since we migrated from SQL Server Standard 2000 to 2008, 3 years ago. Recently, the first log backup on Mondays have been failing. Not every time, but almost every time! The rest of the week, we've had no problems. I guess the issue may have something to do with the size of the log backup that's attempted after a weekend of no backups. Now onto the issue I need a fix for... All this week, every full backup on our biggest two databases have failed (Both backups < 1GB compressed). There's plenty of disk space on the source and destination servers. I'm guessing the issue is to do with the amount of time it takes to complete the backups of these databases, and/or the size of the backup files required to complete these backups. Changing the backup destination to local storage works fine (and very, very fast in comparison). From the Job History, I can find a few hints as to what the problem could be... Code: 0xC002F210 (Always this code, but a mix of the following descriptions...) "The operating system returned the error '64(failed to retrieve text for this error. Reason: 1815)' while attempting 'SetEndOfFile' on '\drserver\SQLBackups\Database.ba
