The first thing i would try would be to log onto OWA directly on the BE server. That's all the FE server does anyway (it acts as a proxy), so to troubleshoot most FE OWA problems, it's usually a good idea to test the BE OWA first.Outlook Web Access For PDA , OWA For WAP www.owa-pda.com email a@t leederbyshire d.0.t c.0.m Marked as answer by nick.andriopoulos Friday, July 08, 2011 7:17 AM Thursday, July 07, 2011 2:39 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote hi thanks for your response.... the BE server was working... his only problem was that a logon page appeared suddenly.... so i said to remove it so i can use the BE until i fix the the FE http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996007%28EXCHG.65%29.aspx this article solved the problem with the logon page and actually.... after that... the FE server is working also like before. Solved Exchange 2003 frontend server / OWA "Unspecified Error" Posted on 2005-11-09 Exchange 1 Verified Solution 5 Comments 1,067 Views Last Modified: 2012-08-13 Hi all This https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/exchange/en-US/4a6274a7-45c8-4661-a80e-05ef40bb55eb/owa-sudden-unspecified-error-e2003?forum=exchangesvradminlegacy question is very tough so if anyone has the answear you will be 500 points richer ;) So here is my scenario: I have 8 exchange servers in my organization running in Native Mode (no pre-Exchange 2000 servers) 5x Exchange 2000 Enterprise servers - All Back-end (with service pack 3 installed) 2x Exchange 2003 Enterprise servers - All Back-end (one with servicepack 1 and the other with service https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/21625168/Exchange-2003-frontend-server-OWA-Unspecified-Error.html pack 2) 1x Exchange 2003 Enterprise Front-end server (with service pack 2 installed) All servers are able to talk to each other and can access GC and DC´s, the front-end is NOT installed on DMZ, it is on the LAN. AD domain level is running in Windows 2000 Native mode. Now, Recently we installed the front-end server to front our exchange organization. I verified the installation on the server and it has all the latest patches and service packs, no errors in the installation and all services are running fine. POP3, IMAP and SMTP service works fine on the frontend and messages are flowing without any errors, BUT the OWA interface is not working as it should do. When you try to access your mailbox through the front-end server from the web interface you receive an “HTTP 500 - Internal server error” message. If you turn off Internet Explorer’s “Friendly HTTP Errors” and try logging in to OWA, again through the front-end server, you get an “Unspecified error” message. However, if you happen to know which of the two back-end servers hosts your mailbox, you can login to that server with no problems whatsoever… No errors or events are logged during

I am under the impression that this KB contains the process http://support.microsoft.com/?ID=280823 under the section "Method 1: Reset the HighWaterMarks" I inherited an Exchange box that was never patched, and after getting up to date I'm getting some permissions issues. If anyone has any warnings about using the above process let me know. Alternatively, can I simply uninstall and reinstall OWA from the Exchange 2003 CD? exchange-2003 outlook-web-app share|improve this question asked Mar 24 '10 at 14:50 lxlxlxl 133 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted You can't just uninstall and re-install OWA, its a built in component of Exchange. I have used that article in the past to successfully fix some issues, particularly steps 5 and 6, which deals with placeholder image problems, that can occur quite often in exchange 2003. You don't mention what you specific problem is, so I can't give you more details. share|improve this answer answered Mar 24 '10 at 15:07 Sam 27.6k46095 Viewing public folders was giving me an 'unspecified error' message, but now I think I've hosed some permissions.
