Solved Installing Microsoft Lync Error visual studio 2015 Posted on 2012-05-10 Windows Server 2008 1 Verified Solution 3 Comments 1,087 Views Last Modified: 2012-05-10 I'm trying to install Microsoft Lync 2010 on a Windows 2008 Server R2 w/SP1. During the "Prepare single Standard Edition Server" install, I keep getting a Bootstrapper error "Failed caching file D:\Steup\amd64\Setup\speech\it-ITMSSpeech_SR_it-IT_TELE.msi, error message: Incorrect function. It's trying to install SQL 2008 Express. I'd rather it not because I have a SQL server already on the network but, it's built into the install and I don't see a why to not install it. 0 Question by:cjb123 Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 12 Best Solution byJeff_Schertz It sounds like the media you are using might be a corrupted download. Also you cannot prevent the SQL Express installation as the Standard Edition server only works with the embedded SQL Express instance, you cannot use an external SQL database instance. Also even if you moved to an Enterprise Edition deployment, which must use an external SQL server instance, the SQL Express components will still be installed as all Front End server in Lync also contain a local SQL Express instance which is used for a local cached copy of some of the Lync database information. 0 Message Author Comment by:cjb1232012-05-10 Thanks for your input. I downloaded the .iso directly from out Microsoft licensing site. I will download another copy and try again. I will let you know my results. 0 Message Author Comment by:cjb1232012-05-10 Jeff, Thanks for the idea. It worked. MS must have realized they had a bad .iso because there's size difference of about 300MB. The new .iso installed as it should. 0 Write Comment First Name Please ente
