Thu, 01/22/2015 - 14:46 I have installed Microsoft Visual Studio Professional cannot run rc.exe visual studio 2015 2013 and Intel Parellel Studio XE Composer Edition for Fortran Windows ( downloaded file w_fcompex_all_jp_2013_sp1.4.237.exe ). In attempting to build a solution from a .vfproj which has been successfully visual studio 2015 rc.exe not found by others in our group, I get "rc.exe not found". Where should "rc.exe" be? I tried re-installing Intel Fortran and it did not work. Does "rc.exe" come from Visual Studio? Also, others in our group who can successfully build the .vfproj do not even have a "rc.exe" on their hard drive. Thanks RSS Top 11 posts / 0 new Last post

For more complete information about compiler optimizations, see our Optimization Notice. andrew_4619 Thu, 01/22/2015 - 15:22 rc.exe is the resource compiler and is part of VS, I think it is associated with the the MS C/C++ product. If you just have the VS2010 shell product the resource compiler in not included by you say you are running VS pro anyway..... Top John V. Thu, 01/22/2015 - 15:26 I have Visual Studio 2010 Express, and then installed Visual Studio 2013. Does that mean there was a problem with the install of Visual Studio 2013? Do I need to uninstall both VS2010 and VS2013 and then reinstall VS2013? Thanks Top andrew_4619 Thu, 01/22/2015 - 15:33 Hmmm, What I do know is express does not work with ifort and does not include rc.exe. I suspect an uninstall is required but maybe there is a smarter way but I do not know the answer to that. The problem is that I don't want to reinstall the whole OS again, and that rc.exe is part of some visual studio 2015 SDK freely downloadable from Microsoft (apparently 6.0a version). I can't find it nevertheless. Anyone knows what rc.exe is part of, and what I need to download (and from where) to get it back ? windows visual-studio sdk share|improve this question edited Apr 12 '10 at 1:45 quack quixote 31.4k1068114 asked Mar 14 '10 at 20:35 Rook 15.1k2093164 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote It's part of the Windows SDK - see here The Microsoft Windows Resource Compiler (RC) is a tool used in building Windows-based applications. This overview describes how to create a resource-definition (script) file, how to compile your application's resources, and how to add compiled resources to your application. This tool is available in Visual Studio and the Microsoft Windows Software Development Kit (SDK). You don't say which version of Windows you are using. The Windows 7 SDK can be downloaded from here, other versions are available too - this one for Windows® Server 2003 SP1 indicates that it's compatible with XP: This edition of the SDK replaces the previous SDKs for Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003 and can be used to develop applications for those platforms. share|improve this answer edited Mar 14 '10 at 21:20 answered Mar 14 '10
