warning. 0x4b8 : An extended error has occurred. Hi All, So my latest round of battles with Tron took me in to the realms of Group Policy's. On site we were having policy issues. While investigating those issue i found the following message in the group policy events : Security policies were propagated with warning. 0x4b8 : An extended error has occurred. however once that was fixed i had to investigate why i was getting errors everytime the group policy was refreshed. So i decided to have a prod around the web to see what i could find out. Unfortunately a lot of the resources seem to be old and relating to Windows Server 2000. The setup i was investigating is all Windows Server 2008 and virtualised with Windows 7 clients. This is why i decided to write up how i solved the problem. So after recieving the errors above in the Group Policy snap in i took a look at the event logs of a computer that had the policies applied and i got the following error : Event Type: Warning Event Source: SceCli Event Category: None Event ID: 1202 Date: date Time: time User: N/A Computer: computer_name Description : Security policies were propagated with warning.0x4b8 : An extended error has occurred. TroubleShooting : This is often related to groups and restricted groups as i found through prodding around google. So taking that into account we needed to try and determine what group might be causing this error. To do this, you need to enable debug logging for the Security Configuration client side extension.
