Windows 7: BSOD 0x00000116 atikmpag.sys 01 Nov 2012 #1 edhelharn Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit SP1 4 posts BSOD 0x00000116 atikmpag.sys Hello all, I am getting an annoying BSOD 0x00000116. This started abouth windows 7 three months ago, and at the beginning it only occurred during games (especially frequently during Alan Wake), but only while loading a next level/chapter, etc. or during in-game videos. According to BlueScreenView, three .sys files were suspected: dxgkrnl.sys, atikmpag.sys and dxgmms1.sys. I tried to uninstall the old ATI driver in safe mode (using Driver Sweeper) and installed the latest driver, but it did not work. Then I installed bluescreen windows 7 an older driver, namely AMD Catalyst 12.6 Beta Driver, and I did not get any BSODs for two weeks! Then I got BSODs again. This time I updated other drivers as well (e.g., audio drivers, USB drivers, etc.), and BSODs failed to come again. The games in question, however, crashed at the "usual" critical points, but without BSODs and restarting of the system. (In the case of Alan Wake, I also got this error message: "Could not lock vertex buffer - Hardware device was removed".) A few days later I got BSODs again, but in these cases the computer totally crashed without restarting of the system, so I could not save .dmp files or check the blue screen error message using BlueScreenView. This time I ran MemTest for several hours, basically all night (because one of my friends suggested that this could also be a memory problem), and fortunatelly memory seems to be ok. I also used CCleaner and cleared the registry, and what a miracle, I did not get any BSODs for 2-3 weeks. The games in question also ran perfectly without crashing. Today, however, I got a BSOD again. I was just closing my web browser after watching an onl

Atikmdag.sys is a type of SYS file associated with ATI Radeon Family developed by Advanced Mirco Devices, Inc. for the Windows Operating System. The latest known version of Atikmdag.sys is 8.1.1.1266, which was produced for Windows Vista. This SYS file carries a popularity rating of 5 stars and a security rating of "UNKNOWN". What Are SYS Files? SYS files such as atikmdag.sys are third-party (eg. Advanced Mirco Devices, Inc.) device drivers or critical system files that come as part of the Windows operating system. Most SYS files allow internal PC hardware or attached hardware, such as a printer, to communicate with third-party software programs (eg. web browsers, word processors, ATI Radeon Family) and the operating system (eg. Windows Vista).Other SYS files are critical system files called "kernel mode device drivers" which are used to power the Windows Vista operating system. Files such as "CONFIG.SYS" contain configuration settings and specify what device drivers should be loaded by the operating system. Without driver files such as atikmdag.sys, you wouldn't be able to do simple tasks such as printing a document. Why Do I Have SYS Errors? SYS file errors are typically caused by faulty hardware or corrupt device driver files. Because of the importance of Atikmdag.sys in the functionality of ATI Radeon Family and other Windows functions, any corruption or damage to this file can create critical system errors in the form of a "blue screen of death" (BSOD). Please see "Causes of Atikmdag.sys Errors" below for more information. When Do SYS Errors Occur? SYS errors, such as those associated with atikmdag.sys, most often occur during computer startup, program startup, or while trying to use a specific function in your program (eg. printing).
