Then when I reboot from the hard disk, there is no error, however, it eventually comes back. Any ideas? windows-7 chkdsk share|improve this question asked May 26 '10 at 18:33 JoelFan 1,36283145 The relevant error message will actually be on the line above that one. –JdeBP Jan 3 '12 at 10:59 Did you ever manage to solve this problem? I'm currently in the same situation. –tftd Dec 2 '12 at 17:04 @tftd, I eventually reinstalled Windows 7 and it no longer happens –JoelFan Dec 2 '12 at 17:21 I actually found a solution to this without reinstalling - get a "Windows 7 Recovery Disk", boot from it, in the options you can choose "Start Command Prompt". In the Command Prompt type chkntfs C: /X and then chkdsk C: /F. With chkntfs you exclude your drive from being checked on boot and with chkdsk you force your drive to be checked now. It fixed my problem so far. If this helps anybody else, upvote and I'll post it as an answer. –tftd Dec 2 '12 at 19:16 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Use AutoRuns

have another puzzle for you all. I have been cloning new Windows 7 workstations for work with a combination of sysprep and TODO backup. I noticed on a couple of the computers that when ever the computer needs to do a disk check it fails giving me an error saying, "Autochk cannot run due to an error caused by a recently installed software package." After looking up this error most of the time it is caused by an anti-virus program and uninstalling it fixes the issue but on my image I go not have an anti-virus installed yet. I have uninstalled the TODO backup program thinking that it is the problem but no change. I have ran different HDD diagnostic programs to see if the drives are just going bad or if could magically fix the issue but no dice. All the programs came back saying there was nothing wrong. Does anyone have an idea of what I can do to fix the computers so they can preform their disk check? Reply Subscribe View Best Answer RELATED TOPICS: Disk Check On Boot Up - How to stop it? Is there a way to run a disk check in VMWare esxi?   10 Replies Jalapeno OP Best Answer Brandi Garcia Jun 6, 2013 at 9:27 UTC Few things.... I've seen this before with a bad image capture...sadly....few things to try to help. I assume you were able to do the disk check PRIOR to capturing the image? But, if not....how are you initiating the disk check? through chkdsk command? Via error-checking on the drive? When you run sysprep, what variables are being referenced in your XML file (if you have created one)? Can you run a disk check from a bootable disk outside of the OS? 0 Poblano OP Solecs Jun 6, 2013 at 10:17 UTC I am not sure if I was able to check the disk before I took the image I never tried. I have initiated the check disk from CMD in windows and CMD while in safe mode I used "chkdsk /r /f" both come back saying, "chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process." I am not using a XML file for sysprep. I open the system preparation tool GUI and just manually the OOBE option with the "Generalize" box checked and have it quit once it is done. Then with out turning off the computer I run TODO. When I ran chkdsk from a windows 7 disk it doesn't go it says, "Cannot lock current drive. Windows cannot run disk checking on this volume because it is write protected." 0 Datil OP afeitguy Jun 6, 2013 at 10:37 UTC Try: chkdsk /f /r /x The /x forces a dismount. 0 S
