was running without any problems. Suddenly I saw a bluescreen (I suppose this is because of a new Bluetooth driver I added). Now I cantget the network working so as http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f217/solved-windows-7-windows-firewall-not-working-bfe-access-denied-635246.html the windows firewall. I suppose the problem is because of "Base Filtering Engine" saying "Access Denied". What can be the reason? I copied the BFE registry settings from a server working well and tried importing, but no success yet. If this account does not have the permissions to query the configuration of a service, you will receive this error. The blog recommended by Syed is to resolve this kind of issues. I understand that you have tried to import registry key from another computer; however, the suggestions listed in the blog are different from this. Please give it a try and let us know if anything is unclear.Laura Zhang - MSFT Marked as answer by Laura ZhangMicrosoft employee, Moderator Monday, September 05, 2011 7:10 AM Tuesday, August 30, 2011 9:53 AM Reply | Quote Moderator All replies 0 Sign in to vote have you tried this http://blogs.technet.com/b/rspitz/archive/2010/09/19/quot-access-is-denied-quot-when-you-attempt-to-start-the-base-filtering-engine-service-after-upgrading-fro

The error said Base Filtering Engine could not be started (Result: Failed). The error directed me to a Norton Web Site which was supposed to help. I did the 3 steps. Step 1 Norton Power Eraser. (I executed it. It found nothing). Step 2 Turn off Product Tamper Protection. Step 3 Enable Base Filtering Engine. In step 3 the base filtering engine Windows 7 system gave me an Error 5-Access is denied. I called Norton's techs. They tried to start the BFE without success. They referred me to Microsoft Windows Support. I called them. They asked me to run 'sfc /scannow' in the command prompt. It came back with no problems (no integrity violations). They would not pursue it without charging me. I said no thanks. So now what? My internet research looks like you need to fool around with the registry. This looks scary to me. There are warnings that it could mess things up. Please give me detailed instructions, because I'm not a computer expert. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium.
