Windows 7: Boot bcd error 0xc00000e9 07 Jul 2011 #1 RetroGamer Windows 7 Ultimate x64 31 posts United States Boot bcd error 0xc00000e9 Sorry if this is in the wrong thread. If it is, please move it to a more proper one, thanks! Today I went to turn on my laptop and got the following error message on startup: "File:\boot\BCD Status: 0xc00000e9 unexpected I/O https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ppXk8OZc854 error has occurred" and it says that it could be caused by removing a removable storage device while in use. At the top is a bar saying "Windows Boot Manager". I looked around the interwebs and found similar stories where the hard drive had just completely failed. Because I am using an OEM installed OS (Windows 7 Ultimate x64) I can not do a repair install without a specific hard drive partition. Bios still sees the hard drive and Windows setup driver browsing sees http://www.sevenforums.com/bsod-help-support/173707-boot-bcd-error-0xc00000e9.html the boot partition so I'm not sure if it is completely dead. If a repair install is all that is needed, and I know this is a long shot, but would I be able to use my non-OEM Windows 7 Home Premium x64 disc to do the repair, even though this is ultimate? The Laptop is only about a week old so I'm quite angry that it would fail so early in its life. Thank you in advance for your help. EDIT: Booted up recovery disc for home premium. This allows me to at least access command prompt for the boot partition. If there is a specific command that could help fix this, please tell me. Thanks! Status: 0xc00000e9 Hi, sorry i'm new to these forums and i'm not sure whether i have posted in the correct topic. I own a EASYNOTE BU windows 7 Laptop, from Packard Bell. When i turn on my laptop, i have a black screen come up, with the following text: Windows Error Recovery Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose Start Windows Normally. >>>Launch Startup Repair (recommended) >>>Start Windows NOrmally Seconds until the highlighted choice will be windows failed to selected automatically: ** Ok, however when i Launch Startup Repair, it waits a few seconds, and puts me on this black screen: Windows Boot Manager Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly conncted and the restart your computer. If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer. Status: 0xc00000e9 Info: An unexpected I/O error has ocurred. I have no removable hardware on my laptop, however i do have an Internal SD Card Drive, Internal CD/DVD Drive, and 2x Internal USB Drives. So i then turn my computer off and on again, and it comes up with the original screen. But however, when i choose Start Windows Normally, it seems to load fine for a few seconds, then seems to reboot the laptop back to the original screen, so there is no way that i can access my files, it seems to just be going round in a big circle. Any help is extremely apreciated, as i am out of ideas. Please reply as soon as possible. Thanks Again. Has anyone got any idea of what this problem is? It just started doing it la
to operate. We've found this error is caused by a large number of problems that will prevent it from being able to operate correctly, preventing your system from being able to boot up properly. What Causes 0xc00000e9 Error? An accidental writing error by the computer. This can just be a glitch, but can also happen if the computer loses power before it has time to shutdown properly. The installation of a badly written program. This could be a program you installed, or even an automatic update via the internet. Contamination by a computer virus. (This could have been hidden in something that was downloaded from the internet). A bad/worn out hard drive. (Unfortunately hard drives don't last forever, but if you're lucky it may still be within warranty). How To Fix The 0xc00000e9 Error Step 1 - Perform Vista / Win7 Startup Repair You may want to perform a "Startup Repair" on your system by inserting the Windows Installation disk into your system, and then letting it repair the startup settings of your system. This can be done by downloading a program called a "registry cleaner" from the Internet, which is a tool that's able to scan through the registry database and fix any of the problems which it might have inside. The registry is basically a database which stores all the files, settings & optinos which allow Windows to run - and is used continually to help make you
