If you use windows 7 cannot copy and paste files Advanced System Care (free PC repair, tune-up and maintenance) from IOBIT (ASC): Open the ASC Toolbox > under Optimize, select Smart RAM > Settings > Un-check "Clean Clipboard" (not “quick clean” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k42MqBBdOPg or “deep clean”). If You use Skype: Delete the Skype Add-ins for Internet Explorer (IE) and Firefox. To un-install the "Click to Call" feature of Skype in Chrome or Firefox, close the browser, open Windows Control Panel, and Uninstall Skype Click To Call in Programs and Features. Otherwise, completely un-install Skype, then re-install the latest version of Skype after everything else http://www.ctimls.com/Support/KB/Error%20Fixes/Fix_Clipboard_Issues.htm is working correctly. If the problem occurs in Internet Explorer: Open Internet Options > select the Advanced tab > click Reset under Reset Internet Explorer Settings > click OK. Running Google Chrome (with gmail and few other tabs open like Calendar, Reader), MS Outlook (which I don't think has anything to do with the problem — I saw it when outlook was off as well), iTunes (9.1.1.12 if it matters). Would appreciate hints where and what for to look in a registry, and ideas for possible fix. That copy and paste is not an Internet Explorer problem (I don't even run it) — it happens in all applications. Neither Ctrl-C/Ctrl-V nor context menu right-click Copy-Paste (actually, nothing happens on Copy, so there is nothing in a clipboard to Paste) are working. Drag-and-Drop (where supported) continues working though. windows-7 copy-paste clipboard share|improve this question asked May 25 '10 at 20:07 earlyadopter 198227 My personal experience with this is that it was a misbehaving application that was causing this. I don't recall now but I think even if the application was closed, the problem persisted and required a reboot. Check what tasks you have scheduled if any (eg, with "Autorun"), what processes you are running (eg, with "Process Explorer"). As drJames mentions below, run an antivirus scan. –Peon May 25 '10 at 22:26 Resolved the issue (this and others) by disassembling Windows computer and switching to Mac Mini. :) Why the hell haven't I done that years ago? –earlyadopter Dec 29 '11 at 18:06 Do you guys have a RAM cleaner of some sort? Check if it has a "clean clipboard" setting, try removing it then see what happens. –user155860 Sep 2 '12 at 2:30 For Windows XP see superuser.com/q/18814/93604, the solution is the same. –Tomas Jul 19 at 13:45 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 21 down

I've noticed that whenever I now try to copy a pic or file I'm always locked out of those pics or files 'cause they're read only. I try to allow read / write but it always defaults back to read only before I can paste. I've been trying to find a way to authorize read / write through administrator but am having no luck. I don't know if this is a problem with my HP desktop, Windows 7, IE 9 or any of the applications I have on my computer. Any help would be greatly appreciated bobhumphrey has chosen the best answer to their question. View answer Ans
