Solved Mapping Network Drives in Server 2003 Posted on 2003-07-29 https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/975440 Windows 2000 1 Verified Solution 8 Comments 4,334 Views Last Modified: 2007-12-19 I have recently installed Windows Server 2003 as a domain controller. It is the first (and only) DC in the forest. I'm logging into one of my client computers (Windows XP Pro) and trying to map a drive to a share on the domain controller. The https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/20694180/Mapping-Network-Drives-in-Server-2003.html client computer has successfully joined the domain and I have logged into the domain. The domain is profwallis.com From the client computer, I issue the following commands: C:\>ping profwallis.com Pinging profwallis.com [192.168.0.200] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 192.168.0.200: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.0.200: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.0.200: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Reply from 192.168.0.200: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128 Ping statistics for 192.168.0.200: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms C:\> C:\>net use x: \\profwallis.com\common System error 1351 has occurred. Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied. C:\>net use x: \\192.168.0.200\common The command completed successfully. C:\>dir x: Volume in drive X has no label. Volume Serial Number is A46A-40A4 Directory of X:\ 07/19/2003 11:15 AM

this issue, but I was not able to find a suitable solution. When I try to map to a dfs share using "net use z: \\abc.com\public". We get: System error 1351 has occurred. Configuration information could not be read from the domain controller, either because the machine is unavailable, or access has been denied. If I try the same command on a Windows 9x, NT, or 2000 computer it works just fine. Any ideas? Top 1. Can Samba mount a DFS share, using \\DOMAIN\dfs, rather than \\COMPUTER\dfs? 2. Can Samba mount a DFS share, using \\DOMAIN\dfs, rather than \\COMPUTER\dfs? Begin < XXXX@XXXXX.COM > Apparently. [snip] mount_smbfs is FreeBSD's client-only implementation from base, and as such not part of samba. So, you'll have to figure out how to invoke samba to mount it instead.
