Windows 7: Limited windows 7 dhcp server software connectivity, DHCP Client not starting Page 1 of 2 1 2 > 13 Nov 2011 #1 vaiolady Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) 3 posts Limited connectivity, DHCP Client not starting https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/943996 Hi. I used to be able to connect to the internet before with no problems. 2 wks ago, the Wireless connection started showing "LIMITED CONNECTIVITY", though, it can see all the wifi networks available in the area. Other computers and wifi enabled devices can all connect easily to the same network. I've tried the following solutions(from the forums) already: -re-installing drivers, disabling-enabling network adapters -made sure the passwords http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/197132-limited-connectivity-dhcp-client-not-starting.html are correct -disabling firewalls -turning on-off (5mins) the router +PC -removing and reloading the network -scanned software/hardware for problems thru built in "vaio care" (indicated that everything is running normally) I also tried to run the Network Diagnostics but this error msg always appear= "The Diagnostics Policy Service is not running."- even if i run it as an administrator.. Checked the Local Services and found out that DHCP Client is not running- Tried starting it several times but it won't start and this error msg always appear "Windows could not start the DHCP CLient service on local Comp. Error 5: Access is denied." I'd appreciate any help/assistance/idea from anyone. Been trying to sort this one out for 4 days now, and still found no solution. Thanks for taking time in reading this. or try to start the DHCP client service, you may receive the following error: Could not start the DHCP Client service on Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied. This problem may http://www.itexperience.net/2009/10/29/error-5-access-is-denied-when-you-try-to-start-the-dhcp-client-service/ occur after an upgrade from Windows 2000 to 2003, or after you've changed permissions https://www.spiderwebsolutions.com.au/could-not-start-the-dchp-client-service-on-local-computer-access-denied/ in the registry. In most cases, this error can easily be solved by granting extra permissions in the registry. To make the permission changes in the registry, do the following: Click Start, click Run, type regedit and click OK Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dhcp Right click the key DHCP and click Permissions. Click Add, type windows 7 network service and click OK Select NETWORKSERVICE and check the Full control box to grant NETWORKSERVICE full control on the DHCP key. Click OK to apply the changes and to close the window Do the same for the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TcpIp: Click Start, click Run, type regedit and click OK Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TcpIp Right click the key TcpIp and click Permissions. Click Add, type network service and click dhcp windows 7 OK Select NETWORKSERVICE and check the Full control box to grant NETWORKSERVICE full control on the TcpIp key. Click OK to apply the changes and to close the window To start the service, click Start, click Run, type services.msc and click OK Right click DHCP client and click Start Alternatively, you could click Start, click Run, type net start dhcp and click OK The DHCP client service should now start 15 thoughts on “Error 5: Access is denied. when you try to start the DHCP Client service” pallygary says: March 6, 2016 at 5:46 pm I see this is a fairly old post but it's just solved this issue for me today so thanks for posting this info… Reply Oskar says: May 30, 2015 at 11:09 am I did all those things, but I still have that error. :s Any ideas? the DCHP Client service on Local Computer - Access Denied Not all of us have hit this one, but I did today. This was a tricky one. Everything online suggested it's an issue with the permissions on the registry keys for Windows. A lot suggested running sfc /scannow. But none of that was the issue here today and this may be the solution you were looking for, I know it took me some time to find it.So as usual this is the normal Microsoft resolution:To make the permission changes in the registry, do the following:Click Start, click Run, type regedit and click OKNavigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\DhcpRight click the key DHCP and click Permissions. Click Add, type network service and click OKSelect NETWORKSERVICE and check the Full control box to grant NETWORKSERVICE full control on the DHCP key.Click OK to apply the changes and to close the windowDo the same for the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TcpIp:Click Start, click Run, type regedit and click OKNavigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\TcpIpRight click the key TcpIp and click Permissions. I fired up Process Monitor from Microsoft Technet and filtered the events down to ACCESS DENIED events after taking a capture while typing in net start dhcp. The problem was with access to C:\Windows\System32\dnsapi
