nVIDIA GEForce 6800 XT On install attempt #1, I was having constant screen flashing issues and in particular an extended (~2 min) blank black screen after resuming from sleep. This eventually morphed into consistent BSODs after resuming from sleep. I ran this for about a week with sleep mode disabled and encountered no additional problems. After not being able to find a solution to the BSOD problem, I attempted a windows 7 disk read error press ctrl alt del second fresh install attempt. Attempt #2 resulted in my SATA hard drives sporadically disappearing, particularly after resume from sleep and/or in the middle of usage (file moving, mounting an ISO, etc.) Event log shows Event ID 11: "The driver detected a controller error on Device\Harddisk(# doesn't matter, happens to all of them)\DR(again, variable #)." The only proposed solutions I could find to the problem online included: 1) Checking to make sure cables were secure. Have done this, problem persists on both secondary SATA hard drives (a third IDE drive is unaffected.) 2) Checking to make sure hard drives were not failing/running chkdisk\manufacturer diagnostics, etc. Have done this, one hard drive did require chkdisk to repair inconsistencies. The other had no problems at all. After the repair of one leaving both theoretically sound, the problem persisted. 3) Checking for virus infection. Have done this, none found. 4) Assigning a drive letter in Disk Management. Not relevant as my drives already were assigned letters and are not even visible in Disk Management. 5) Checking the power supply to ensure that there is enough power to sustain all drives. My power supply could use replacing, however I don't believe in this instance it is responsible for the drives disappearin

One of them I was able to find http://www.eventid.net/display-eventid-11-source-Disk-eventno-616-phase-1.htm the cause by simply installing Dell OpenManager Server Administrator and taking a look at the storage. The firmware driver was out of date. That would be a good first place to start. The other two alerts did not have a similar find. x 309 W4tch3r I am getting this error using multiple drives in a Shintaro USB3 drive caddy. After lots of drive and cable swapping I have discovered it happens because I have the drive caddy plugged into a Noontec USB3 hub. When I bypass the hub and go straight to the PC it does not happen. I do not know yet if the problem is with the Noontec hub or the Shintaro drive dock. x 315 Alexander Freudenberg In certain conditions, this error message is related to the S.M.A.R.T attribute 187 (Reported uncorrectable errors). Log Name: System Source: Disk EventID: 11 Level: Error How do I know what disk this is referring to? I am reasonably confident that it is a plugin USB memory stick, but want to be sure it is not one the of the main HDD's. When I plug a USB stick into the slot, diskpart shows the arrival of "Disk 6". I am presuming that Disk 6 corresponds to Harddisk6 in the controller error, but I don't like assumptions. windows-7 hard-drive usb event-log share|improve this question edited Oct 27 '15 at 23:49 Scott 11.5k112650 asked Mar 2 '15 at 5:02 Darryl Severn 1 marked as duplicate by karel, BlueBerry - Vignesh4303, DavidPostill, Moses, Scott Oct 27 '15 at 23:49 This question was marked as an exact duplicate of an existing question. add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote How to Distinguish a Physical Disk Device from an Event Message https://support.microsoft.com/kb/159865 share|improve this answer answered Mar 2 '15 at 7:01 Dan 25416 1 Dan, thanks for your response, but the detail in this KB doesn't match Win 7. As an example, the "DR" component in the error message I get isn't mentioned at all. There is also detailed registry refernces in that KB that just don't exist in Win 7. I have seen this KB referenced several times, quite often with requests for more recent information. Thanks anyway. –Darryl Severn Mar 2 '15 at 10:03 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Method 1 Computer Management: Open Computer Management (compmgmt.msc) Expand Storage Click on Disk Management Right-Click
