How can I register a DLL file on Windows7 with a 64-bit processor? dll windows-7 64bit regsvr32 dllregistration share|improve this question http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4897685/how-do-i-register-a-dll-file-on-windows-7-64-bit edited Jul 19 '14 at 21:33 Peter Mortensen 10.2k1369107 asked Feb 4 '11 at 11:55 Rajkumar Reddy 86841428 Seeing as this question is tagged "vb.net", I have to wonder why you're trying to register a DLL you created in VB.NET. To be used with regsvr32, a DLL must export the functions DllRegisterServer and DllUnregisterServer. There's no register the vast majority of DLLs that you create at all. –Cody Gray Feb 3 '11 at 11:41 11 What do you mean by doesn't work or isn't useful? Do you get an error message? What does it say? –Cody Gray Feb 4 '11 at 12:08 -1 for "this is not working", words that convey next to no useful information –David Heffernan Sep 10 '14 at 11:18 add a comment| 15 Answers 15 active oldest votes up vote 44 down vote accepted Type regsvr32 name.dll into the Command Prompt and press "Enter." Note that name.dll should be replaced with the name of the DLL that you want to register. For example, if you want to register the iexplore.dll, type regsvr32 iexp

Now type regsvr32 MyComobject.dll share|improve this answer answered Apr 21 '12 at 2:18 Michael Blood 1,094810 IMHO that's the best anwswer. You cannot run cmd as runas /user:Administrator cmd.exe This will not be enough. You should use this method you explained. +1 for that –jyz Aug 15 '13 at 1:44 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote Use following command should work

However, in my case, the same error occurs even on a cmd opened with admin rights (tested with the answers on http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7985755/how-to-detect-if-cmd-is-running-as-administrator-has-elevated-privileges). Both regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\GitExtensions\GitExtensionsShellEx64.dll" and C:\windows\SysWOW64\regsvr32.exe "C:\Program Files (x86)\GitExtensions\GitExtensionsShellEx64.dll" fails with the same error message, that the given module was loaded but the call to DllRegisterServer failed with the code 0x80070005. I tried to monitor registry accesses as given in http://www.cryer.co.uk/brian/windows/troubleshooting/nt4_dllregisterserver_in_com_failed_0x80070005.htm , but there are no ACCESS DENIED or ACCDENIED results at all in the resulting list. Edit: I've now even tried runas /user:Administrator "regsvr32.exe \"C:\Program Files (x86)\GitExtensions\GitExtensionsShellEx64.dll\"" from within a cmd that was itself run as Administrator but that too results in the same error! windows-7 windows command-line administrator regsvr32 share|improve this question edited Sep 4 '13 at 15:48 asked Sep 4 '13 at 15:25 sundar 54511325 If you move the file to a non-protected folder does it work? –Ramhound Sep 4 '13 at 15:48 @Ramhound Unfortunately yes, the same happens wherever I put the dll files. –sundar Sep 4 '13 at 15:58 use ProcessMonitor instead of regMon to monitor the activity. –magicandre1981 Sep 4 '13 at 18:17 @magicandre1981 Yes, I read that regmon had been merged into procmon so that's what I used. I made a filter to observe only regsvr32.exe to filter out the
