Gepubliceerd op 30 nov. 2014Assuming your server is setup correctly and the workstation is also set up correctly with a proper ip address and a DNS that looks at the server. You may have even successfully joined an xp workstation to this domain but can't seem to connect with windows 7 pro.Simple to fix in my case I just disabled or temporarily un checked the ipv6 protocol in the setting of the local network. This simplified the view of the machine by the server and allows the negotiation.Than just re check box the ipv6 protocol after the welcome handshake so the workstation can access the internet correctly.restart the computer. When I try to join the domain it gives an error "An attempt to resolve the dns name of a domain controller in the domain being joined windows 7 has failed. please verify this client is configured to reach a dns server that can resolve dns names in the target domain" I have done everything manually put the DNS IP address which is my domain controller IP but still same error .. TheOutcaste, Jun 2, 2010 #2 smartpalari Thread Starter Joined: Jun 2, 2010 Messages: 3 Hi, Thanks for replying .... when I ping FQDN it gives me "ping request could not find host please check the name and try again" but when I only ping the domain name not the FQDN it give me a reply ... Thanks. smartpalari, Jun 2, 2010 #3 TheOutcaste Joined: Aug 7, 2007 Messages: 9,028 Sounds like a DNS problem for sure. You should be able to ping the server name, the domain name, or the FQDN and get a reply for all three. Here's what I get: Server Name - Win2k3-ent Domain Name - test.contoso.com Code: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Join Now I just deployed a new computer and when I tried to join the domain I received the following error. "The following error occurred attempting to join the domain The specified server cannot perform the requested operation." I did some research and I think it may be DNS related. I checked the DNS event log on the server and found that their are a lot of errors. Their are several a day. The error is below. Event Type: Error Event Source: DNS Event Category: None Event ID: 4015 Date: 12/30/2009 Time: 10:05:14 PM User: N/A Computer: server Description: The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory. Check that the Active Directory is functioning properly. The extended error debug information (which may be empty) is "000020EF: SvcErr: DSID-020A10BB, problem 5012 (DIR_ERROR), data -1014". The event data contains the error. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

I have one DNS server on site and four others off site. They are all AD integrated. All DNS servers are also Domain Controllers. I removed stale records and cleared the DNS cache. I double checked to make sure I was not trying to add a computer name that was already part of the domain. I did noticed that when I attempt to join, it creates a computer object in AD but it has a red X on it. nslookup from both computers provides the correct DNS server. Thanks for the information. Any other thoughts?
